I recently found a 4" S&W 586 in very nice condition! To my mind, the 586-3 is the "best of breed" - the firing pin bushing problems that plagued the earlier pistols was resolved, the checkered wood Target grips remain and the "lawyer-lock" and MIM parts were yet to be invented.

Good find! I have a no dash from 1983. Got it in a trade. Have under $450 in it. My pics are dog chow compared to yours. You need a 686 to go with it. (if you don't have 1) Bob

Dear Sir; this is indeed a sad situation, obviously this revolver isn't good enough for you, as you have such discerning taste regarding firearms. I however am not of such a high caliber or of discerning taste therefore I will take this off your hands and save you from any future difficulties. I am here for you, well jus sayin if you are in need of my assistance,,, I am here for you...

For me anything up to -4 is good to go! Even the later ones are fine so it's just a preference. The bushing is a free fix (if it's a problem at all) so mine run from no dash to -4 and they all shoot perfectly.:)

Congrats on a nice gun...life its good.:D

Very, very sharp revolver.

Those 586's are among the nicest S&W revolvers ever made.

I like 'em!

I bought a 6" 586ND in 83, a 2.5" LH 686, a 4" 686-3 and now this 4" 586-1 which overall is my favorite. If the 2.5" 686 was a 3", I'd still have it but I have no room in the safe for short ejector rods.
