1st Gen model 59, need magazine

I have been given my Grandfather's 1st Gen Model 59 9mm that he used as a sheriff. It only had one magazine with it. Can anyone point me to a site where I could purchase additional magazines for it? Also, will any model 59 magazine work with this gun or is there a specific magazine used for the 1st gens (the current magazine holds 15 or 16 rounds).

Any 59/459/559/659/59xx series mag will work. earlier mags were 14rds and orange follower mags from around 92-93up are 15rd. Original mags had a medal floorplate and may be harder to find. New 5900 mags are stainless with a plastic basepad and run $32-35 new $20 or so used.

You can also find them at CDNN for a reasonable price. Mec-Gar makes a 17 round magazine that works well in both of my Model 59's and fits flush. You can find them at Smith & Wesson 59 Series 9mm 17rd Blue Mag New Mec-Gar.

Some Mec Gar magazines don't deactivated the magazine disconnect properly. One has to remove the rear sight and take out the tiny spring under the sight. Takes only a few minutes to do. Then you are good to go.
I like the Mec Gar magazines 15 or 17 rounders.

Apparently prices are pretty good if they have. Also been looking for mags. He also said any 59 series mag will work. Hope you come rite.

with two 39-2's and a 59 I get the orginals, clean them and change the springs-ordered 3 today fo $40 each;if they aren't crap I'll post the guys info.
