Well folks,

After much anticipation, I finally collected my 1st ever S&W today. And what is more, it is my first revolver as well!

It's a 17-4. Seems in good condition to my (handgun) inexpert eye. At least it is in good shape and locks up tight with good chamber - barrel aligment and no apparent gremlins in the trigger.

Well, photo's or it didn't happen, so here we are:
(Think it has all original paperwork and the cleaning kit is still sealed in poly bag with matching serial number box...)

Only slight lining on cylinder:

Well, hope I've done OK. I'm happy with it. Reckon I paid top $ but I didn't have a lot to haggle with...

Congratulations - that's a great looking piece that will give you a lifetime of enjoyment. When you amortize whatever the price you paid over that lifetime, the cost is negligible, and think of all the money you'll save shooting a .22!

Ah, rationalization, my favorite thought process when approaching yet another Smith & Wesson.

Beautiful Smith and congrats on the find. If you paid "top dollar" and can afford it, so what! Enjoy that beautiful Smith.

Thanks folks. I'm almost a little nervous about shooting it. Perhaps I'll need to be more rational about it and get a 617 to shoot so I don't put many more miles on the ol' gal!

(Hey, you're right! This rationalisation stuff is amazing! Now, how do I rationalize that 25-5 in .45Colt he's got in a presentation box...)

ATB,

Scrummy

You need that 25-5! You can't have just one. After the 25 just keep looking Smith and Wesson made a lot of models.

Congratulations on the purchase as it looks like a keeper.

It depends how you define need... but I think I am convincing myself I might "Need" it.

next purchase I think will be a something to accompany me pigging so perhaps something a little more "rough and ready"

Dare I say it: Time to buy a Ruger?
