Who makes them for the 5”? Wolf says for 4.25” only. Looking to replace mine on my 5”. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you're satisfied with your factory recoil spring, call S&W customer service. They'll send a new one free.

I had the same issue when I got my 5” version. The recoil spring/guide rod are the same for the 4.25” and the 5” slide.

Same spring used in both and glock springs interchange . I was told by S&W CS todays stock spring is a 20lb spring but earlier springs were green 16.5 and blue 15. Something !! I'm running a 20lb now in my 4.35 40 and testing a 22lb pound glock spring but mines a 40sw . MY wifes 9mm is running a 13lb spring in her 4.25 CORE with lite slow ammo . But will swap to 20lb for hot heavier defensive loads
You did not say what you use your pistol for so it might be best to buy a variety of weights and decide what you like as it can depend on your load specially if shooting matches .
Brian Enos forum treads might be a better place to judge what others use for matches , over look the optic part and read on

So my wolf springs I have for my 4.25” will work for this 5”?? Why does wolf state they only work in the 4.25”? *******s!!!

Maybe you could go to Brownells and cross reference part numbers of S&W recoil springs.

Sorry to revive a thread from a few months ago but I was just looking into this myself. I even emailed Wolff and Galloway regarding using their parts in the 2.0 5" model and they both said their parts are only for the 4.25". Galloway actually offered to start making the item if I send them my stock guide rod/spring. Weird that they don't know it's all the same parts if that's the case.
Guess you could do as I did and talk to S&W CS about the M&P recoil springs and or assemblies . Remember parts producers only know about what they make fit to a specific firearm model and some like Galloway mainly sell products made by others .
I get this type of question a lot, and the happy answer is that the OEM (ISMI) flat-wound recoil spring assemblies for the M&Ps are far superior to any aftermarket assemblies you can get. From Brownells and ISMI you can get various weight springs to accommodate special loads. For example, I have a 15# spring in a 4.25" 9mm just for beginners to shoot light loads (and limp wrist). The 4.25 and 5" M&Ps use the same RSAs, and you can get up to 20# for full .40 loads.
The service life of the flat-wound ISMI springs is also very high, and competitors use them for a whole year of constant shooting, documented up to 63,000 rounds, and still working fine.

I use the stock M&P rod, which is steel threaded with a small bolt. If you want to change springs, put the lower end into a soft-jaw vice and unscrew the bolt with a miniature socket. Hang on to the spring!!
The stock S&W M&P RSAs are superior to any aftermarket RSA hardware you can buy. The longer rods made for the Wolff piano wire springs WILL NOT WORK with the flat wound springs.
IMHO, an extra stock RSA for $13 is all you will ever need.
PS I carry in my competition bag a spare trigger spring and a spare striker assembly for my M&P. I have broken those. While I have replaced several 1911 (piano wire) springs in matches, I have NEVER had any trouble with M&P stock ISMI RSAs.

I have not shot a match in years . MY 4.25 40sw is a carry pistol and I also run the stock rod but with a 20lb spring . Made a difference in performance , have yet to test the 18lb but will .

I didn't even realize you could take the stock rod apart. I just assumed it was welded closed or something. Thanks again!
Now I'm more confused. I got out my 1.0 4.25" and my 2.0 5". The guide rod on the 5" was a bit longer. Also, there was about 32 coils on the 1.0 while there was around 42 on the 2.0. I contacted S&W and got a quick reply saying part numbers are different, they are different. I don't understand how there can be one spring for both when they seem to be quite different.
*Finally got a picture of the difference. Don't know why I didn't think to get a picture sooner. Oh well. The bottom is a 5" 1.0 which uses the same rod/spring as a 4.25" 1.0. The top is a 5" 2.0 which uses a longer spring and rod.

I just went through this, was looking for lighter spring for 130PF loads for a 5" 2.0. Picked up a 13# and 15# ISMI springs and an un-captured guide rod from Carver Custom here locally. Speed Shooters Specialties also offers similar parts but have been OOS for a while it seems.
My 130PF loads are actually closer to 140 due to using a shorter COL due to using a FP bullet, so wanted to experiment. 13lb ISMI seems to be the overwhelming choice for minor PF loads, some even run factory ammo (range stuff, not hot defense ammo) on 13#'s. Not sure what the upper limits are on various spring rates, my "130's" run 1150fps, and I also tried some Federal AE 124's that run 1200fps. 13# handled both fine although the OEM spring works fine for them too really.
Not 100% sure what the OEM spring is rated at- I've also read the 20# number but that seems awfully high - The 1.0's were 16lb's IIRC (S&W Blue Spring).
