When it comes to handguns nothing makes me as happy as when a new pistol performs flawlessly from the get-go. When it's two new pistols, my happiness is doubled.
Such was the case this morning as I made my way out with my Merry Christmas to myself gift, a pair of Shield 2.0 9mms. I've already been shooting and carrying a PC Shield 1.0 9mm so my new pair was up against stiff competition. Yes, I cleaned and lubed both 2.0s per the owners manual.
They didn't disappoint, at all. I put 115 rounds thru "each" pistol with both 2.0s digesting 50 rounds of Magtech 115 grain FMC, 40 rounds of my preferred CCW load in 9mm, Speer Gold Dot 124 Grain +P, and 25 rounds of the new kid on my armory block, Hornady American Gunner 124 grain +P. Yes it's true, in 9mm I'm a 124+p kinda guy.
So how did the 2.0s stack up against my current primary CCW piece, the PC Shield 9mm 1.0? Very, very well. First the triggers on my 2.0s were every bit as good as my PC Shield, clean, crisp, with a short, distinct reset. Now onto the grip. No contest for
me. I LUV the 2.0 grip texture. It was like the palms of my hands were lined with skateboard tape. Once I applied a firm grip the pistols were glued rigid in my hands. At the end overall I called it a three way tie.
Functioning was perfect, zero hiccups. The 2.0s especially liked the Speer 124 + Ps. The standard, three white dot sights were easy to pick up and shot point of aim / point of impact. At twelve yards I shot "rapid" double and triple taps, standing, using a two hand hold. Flash sight picture-bang, flash sight picture-bang, etc.
I ran the 2.0s hard, fast, and hot. They were more than up to the task. My Shields are without a doubt my preferred civilian CCW pieces. And in case you're wondering, yes, I own a Glock 43 and a Glock 26.
So now some may ask, "What the hell do you need three Shields for?" Well, one at 4 O'clock, one in my right front pocket, and one on my inside left ankle.
