I put a 2.5" 686-4+ in layaway. I don't have access to my SCSW this week.

Can someone please give me a date on it - CBT04XX. Thanks very much! :) Regards 18DAI

Thank you very much ladder13! :) Regards 18DAI

This 2.5" 686-4+ is a bit different. It has the angled thumb latch of late 686-4 production, but the forged hammer AND trigger of earlier 686-4 production.

There is no wear mark or scratches on the frame to indicate the thumb latch was changed out by the previous owner. This one looks little used. Barely a turn line.

No box or docs but I didn't care as I knew I was "stealing" it. Been looking for one of these for over six years. First one I've come across locally. Thanks again ladder13! :) Regards 18DAI

I picked up a -5 plus in late 2009 and its now one of my most favorite revolvers. They are a great med frame revolver and I love the 7 shot capability. Mine had the box but no paperwork and got it for $500 OTD. That gun was the main reason I sold off my 696.

According to the SCSW #3, the new style thumb latch came out in 1997. My 686-4 Plus has the angled MIM thumbpiece, but the Spec Ord code on the box is 6121 (121st day, 1996). FYI, my serial number prefix is CBA.

The 686-4 Plus is probably the best variation produced. They still have a forged trigger and hammer and the old style frame lug, but they have the new style rear sight which looks neater to me.
Congratulations!

Thanks for the additional info s&wchad. Mine looks just like yours, only with blonde S&W Combats on it.

I picked up a 4" 686-4+ some years back. Superb tack driver. I've been searching since for a 2.5" or 3" 686-4+ to accompany it.

One sad note. I asked my dealer where he had come into such a nice collection of pre lock S&W revolvers and 3rd gen semi auto's - he had more than 40 guns in the batch - he replied that an older gentleman, who had recently suffered very poor health, had decided to unload his entire collection. Kind of a downer, for me. I will remember this poor soul in my prayers tonight.

Anyways, this 686+ snub of his went to a good home. Regards 18DAI

I have a 4" 686-4+ and a 2.5" 686-4+. Both have the angled MIM thumbpiece.

Congrats!!! It just doesn't get any better than a 7-shot 686-4 snubby.
