I was doing some testing today between my Model 64 2" and Model 64 4" using the same ammo. The difference in report was quite noticeable. I would guess probably 25% louder with the 2" barrel.

I don't know if that's a good or bad thing but something to think about...

Recoil increases, noise increases, muzzle flash increases, velocity decreases.
All this and in a K frame or larger size gun I find that a snubby is not really that much easier to carry/conceal than the same gun with a 4" barrel. So why do I own so many of them? they just look cool.

Sir, you've aptly described why I no longer own any K-frame or bigger snubbies. IMHO, once you get bigger than a J-frame, the short tube quickly becomes a dubious tradeoff.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

The difference in performance (velocity, energy, etc) between a 2" and a 4" revolver is significant. The additional blast and muzzle flash is also significant, due to larger amounts of unburned powder being expelled behind the bullet at the muzzle.

The barrel of a revolver is the easiest part to conceal; larger grips pose much more of a problem in concealment.

I have a 2-1/2" Model 19 that I have owned for over 30 years and carried extensively during my law enforcement career. I only fired it once with .357 mag ammunition, that was enough to convince me that .38 Special +P was the realistic limit for the purpose.

I also have several J-frame revolvers with 2" barrels. I like them primarily for the light weight and a very small size that can be slipped into a pocket, etc.

I have noticed that a couple of manufacturers are offering ammo loaded specifically for optimum performance in short barrels. These might be worth trying.

Style is everything.

Yep. That's pretty much the reason people buy short box pickups.

Some of us actually use our 4-wheel drive trucks off-road where a long truck is a liability.

This is the same reason my carry revolvers wear short grips and short barrels. They're practical for what I use them for.

I guess I'm stuck thinking "in the box' here, Pat. I don't go four wheeling. I'm more interested in closing the tailgate with a couple dozen sheets of plywood in the back.
