Not sure how to post photos so I made this short video showing the demooning tool I made for less than $2. Took maybe 15 minutes tops to make and works great.

I was looking at these online for 17.95 plus 6 shipping and the 45-49$ official mooning/demooning tools are priced too high.

I'm pretty happy with loading mine by hand, it's just the last round that requires a little effort, otherwise this will get me by for a long time and I can put that saved money toward other gear I need. I can buy a complete reloading die set for cheaper than one of those silly tools.

Yes, that's the way to go, all right. It's good that you've titled this thread so well - people ask all the time how to make these, and your thread should be an easy-to-find resource. :)

Thanks. Looks easy enough to make. I'm surprised the guy that shot the video didn't show the tool working with empty brass instead of the whole case/bullet.

De mooner

As I always say" Cost is no object as long as it's cheap" i made one without a T handle for my Mod 25-2

Thanks for sharing that. I currently only have a Brazillian but someday hope to have a M25 .45 ACP as well.

I still use my fingers to "de-moon".

I made a similar tool in the machine shop at work using some waste material. All told it took perhaps 10 minutes and the only cost was for the gas to go into the shop on a weekend.

I've also come up with a zero cost moon clip loader. While it's not blazing fast a simple pair of pliers can be used to pop fresh rounds into the clip. One of these days when I'm not doing house chores on a weekend I'll head into the shop and make up one of those rotary moon clip loaders similar to what a member posted a few weeks back.

I made mine out of a piece of scrap 1/2" ID copper tubing I had laying around, basically the same as what was shown, except no "T Handle". I did glue a piece of cork in the pipe at the proper depth to hold a loaded round, and it can be used to put rounds in also when they are tight fitting.

Nice tool for sure, but I just use my thumb and index fingers with the RIMZ clips. No need to spend a lot of time loading and undloading with extra stuff.

Wow, great minds think alike I guess. I'll have to try those RIMZ clips sometime Scott, thanks for the tip.

Gunner, sorry I just had the loaded ones on hand at the time is all. It works just the same on spent rounds. Although they do fit tighter than unfired ones, so that's a good reason for the tool to be a little loose fitting...

A broken golf club shaft works great. Stop at the local course and ask the pro shop for a couple out of their trash. Crappy cell phone pics...

Wow, you have to try the RIMZ clips. It is just so easy. No tools to drag around, just pop them in and out. Really makes the moon clips fun.

WOW, now that is a more elegant solution by far. If I loose mine this will be the next kind I make. Superb thinking. I'd likely chop the handle short too.

Thanks, but it's hardly my idea. You see a lot of them at ICORE and USPSA matches. I like it long and with the butt cap still in place. It needs to be able to hold at least eight .357 cases so I can strip out a 627 clip.
