1- Yes.
2- A Model 5906 is a DA/SA 3rd Gen. Pistol. DA only 3rd Gen. guns are under a different model numbering. Like 5946 which is a DA only version of the 5906. The 5906 has a hammer and decocking/safety lever on the rear of the slide. If you do a search here or via google you will find some pics.

All 3rd Gens have a lifetime warranty. Although I am sure that even "lifetime" has some restrictions. Lifetime of this generation or lifetime of the gun? We'll find out when my son (or his son) is an old man and the slide finals cracks on my 4506. ;)

Like 4864 said: If it has this lever (as seen in the pic below) it is more likely than not a DA/SA.

I think your first question has been answered already so I'll just jump in on the 2nd.
With out listing the 3rd gen number system, basically if the second to last number in the model number is a 0,1 or 6 it is a traditional double action. If the second to last number is a 2, 3 (not very common) or a 7 it has a frame mounted decocker. If the Second to last number is a 4,5 or 8 it is a DAO.
