Hey, guys,

Been away awhile, but am back in the fold now. I just purchased a new M&P 9C. What is "2.0", and how do you know if you have one?

Also, why are the mags nearly impossible to load? What a struggle, even to get the first round in.

I did a search for the latter issue, and found lots of posts, but no answers that applied.

Thanks,
Jim, Las Vegas

All the 2.0's have '2 0' engraved on the slide.

As for the mag loading being difficult, load them to full capacity and leave them that way for a few days.

I insert each mag into the gun and leave it in there for a while. Then swap for another. This just puts a little more pressure on the rounds.

After a few days, I unload them and reload. If they are still hard to load, I repeat the process.

I use a Uplula magloader, same one covers from my full size down to my Shield mags. Saves my hands/thumbs esp when mags are new and or really stiff.
I think you will find that many here use that magloader.

Its worth at least checking out

thanks Ranger, and DM. I figured out the answer to the first question all by myself...haha.

I have all the mags loaded now for nearly a week, and will see if they are better. If not, I will probably get the mag loader Ranger suggested.

thanks for your help, guys. Jim

Money WELL spent!

Since you said you had figured out the 2.0 ID issue, I won't go into that. I will, however, heartily second the UpLula mag loader. I love it...even the stiff, hard to load mags aren't with the UpLula. A word of warning, though...it will spoil you! It makes loading a mag so fast and easy that you'll never want to be without one.

The 2.0 are identified at a glance by looking at the front of the slide. If it looks like it was dropped into a grinder, it’s a 2.0.

I'm pretty sure if your gun says "9c" on it, it's a 1.0 gun.

This is a popular misconception that storing fully loaded megs will loosen up the springs. Springs are weakened by compression-decompression cycles. Ya just have to shoot it.

I don’t use a loader. The first time I shot my 40 I could only get 5 rounds in the 7 round magazine. After a few mags, I could get the 6th round in there without breaking a finger. After a few more mags down range, they fully stacked.

SATX has it right. Just leaving your mags loaded won't make any difference. What really changes is us. As we gain experience loading the mags, they seem to get easier. It's really just us getting better at it.

Springs will lose power if left compressed, but not in any significant way. Certainly not in a week or even a month or 6 months. They will lose power faster by compressing and releasing them a lot. Of course, the material and design of the mag springs is chosen to lose as little as possible for as long as possible.

Just keep practicing. You'll get it.

Though you are correct that springs are weakened by repeated compression/decompression cycles, it's not a misconception that leaving them loaded doesn't work.

I've been doing that with stubborn to load mags for 35 years and it does work.

Now actually shooting works too (and better) and it is a lot more fun than just watching loaded mags lying around! [emoji3]
