Are they showing up anywhere besides ebay? The first two in the series have been out for a while but I've yet to find one in my change.

2009 Lincoln Cent Release Dates

My bank lady tells me they haven't received any, and that they've been busy all year taking IN coin hoards from customers. I've only seen two 2009 dimes til now.

Have not seem these yet, either. I'm not too thrilled about the half built Capital Building design. Doesn't make sence. (cents?)

New Cent

Got one yesterday...showing what appears to be Lincoln sitting on a log with an axe and a book. His profile is on the front as usual.

I have seen and have had both of the first 2. The third one is suppose to be released tomorrow, so hard telling how soon I get one of them.

What a stupid stupid stupid idea. The penny should be discontinued, not reissued.

Hmm.... guess I am going to have to start looking at my change for once instead of just pitching it in the cookie jar. Didn't even know there were new pennies coming out. Of course that leads to the bigger question..... why????

I've only seen three of the log cabin pennies here in CA. Haven't any of the othe ones.

Prior to this thread, I didn't even know there was anything new to look for in the world of pennies. I rarely use cash, and when I do, I just toss my coins into various spots in my car. When I get a bunch together, I go through the self check out line at Giant and pay entirely with coins just to help spread joy to the people behind me.

When the competition for the anniversary cents was announced several years ago, it was widely thought this would be the fitting end to the 100 years run. Turns out the Penny Lobby is more feared than the AARP and NRA combined. The 2010 is already approved.

You could ask around, but no one knows exactly why.

Well, as to the answer of the penny...

A roll of 95% copper pennies, is worth a copper melt value of 93 cents today. (Pre-1982).

Although it is illegal to melt, scrap or do anything to pennies or nickels at this time without an issuance of a permit from the U.S. Treasury, likely it may be only a matter of time until this changes. There is a lot of use for copper, especially in the shooting sports. :D

It is perfectly legal to hoard pennies, and your bank will gladly order a bunch of them for you. Brinks and other companies reportedly have pallets of them, because banks don't store coins any longer. They actually want to get rid of them because of the soaring storage/transportation costs. Heck, most regular banks don't have a couple of hundred thousand dollars in cash/coin their vaults at any one time.

Heaven help us if we have a run on the bank again.
Eh, forget that- no one has money in the bank anyway...it all credit cards. :(
