2024 Firearms Review- Let's see what you bought / What did you sell?

What I bought in 2024

Taurus 856 Defender 38Special 6 shot revolver. 3 inch barrel.
Nice enough revolver but had to have my gunsmith lighten the trigger pull . I'm guessing the double action pull was about 14 lbs.
Now SA pull 6 LBS 12 Oz. DA pull 10Lbs 8.0 Ozs. Also had to replace the grip because the factory grip positioned my hand so that the cylinder release bloodied my thumb knuckle.

Also bought a Diamondback SDR .357 Revolver . I chose the one with the Black Nitride finish which makes it very easy to clean and is extremely wear resistant. Weight 21 ozs J frame sized . 6 round capacity Factory SA trigger pull 4LBS 15 ozs DA 9Lbs 14 ozs , very smooth and does not stack . Fiber optic sights are very easy and for my 76 year old eye to see. I am carrying it a lot..
I ready like this revolver. 🥰

The Marlin .357 lever rifle I ordered in the spring of 2020, or more precisely, a close variant finally came in about a month ago. I did the Washington background and waiting period, during which I am having some smithing done by the shop.

I am now out of commission for shooting due to an ill-considered fight with the garage floor, which I lost. The surgery is next week. It caused a lot of other problems which frustrate me and can't really be described without upsetting the mods.:mad:

I am considering selling my 625-6 which was stolen and recovered, then fixed by BMCM. Silly emotional response, but I don't feel a connection to it now.

SIR...........You are in HIGH COTTON with that mdl 8 in 35 rem........Always wanted one of those.

Even worse; I had to pay for it up front. I had worked on it about 12 years ago when I was co-owner of a gun shop. The owner is a fair friend, and he only charged me the cost for a refinished rifle. Yes, I'm going to tell you.......$150.00. Honest to Gawd, thaats all.

It was a pretty good year.

I think this must be the record! Very impressive haul.

Hope you are "on the mend" and can get to finally use the .357mag Marlin you have been waiting for since 2020.

Moo Moo: Thanks. Consult and surgery are 1/9 and 1/10. Of all the collateral effects, the delay in transplant is the least bothersome. Not being able to drive the platform for our RV, losing my condition, and not being able shoot the Marlin and the impact on my accumulated leave are all worse.:(

Sometimes there is a loooong dry spell and other times, it's hard not to trip over them. 2025 has started out even better. A High Standard shotgun at a New Year's Day auction, and a S&W Pre-18 on Jan 2. Those are two guns that have been at the top of my priority list for years and I've come up dry. Now watch, I won't get anything for months.

I just added two pistols. One is a SIG Sauer P220S Sport from the old Mastershop in Eckernförde. I had been inside that factory and saw how the guns in the mastershop were assembled and was impressed.

The other is a Nowlin Action Elite in .45 ACP that impressed me with its quality and fit.

Not Much, But A Good One

I haven't been doing much buying since retiring, but I did stumble across a great deal on this superb condition Remington 81 Woodsmaster in .300 Savage.

On the deficit side, I didn't sell anything, but I "re-homed" a couple .22s to some good friends with kids just coming up on shooting age. One was a Ruger Wrangler and the other was a Marlin Glenfield M75.

also got a few scopes, reddots, grips, holsters and rebuilt my portable reloading stand..

I bought about a dozen guns in 2024, and consigned seven for sale on GunBroker to Sarah15 (Jim Brewster on this Forum).

The interesting thing to me is that the first gun that I bought in January was a 2" Taurus revolver in .327 Federal Mag, and the last gun that I bought in December was a Henry Big Boy with a 20" barrel in... .327 Federal Mag.

I must be getting old! I forgot the best one; a 1908 Brazilian Mauser that is unissued. 7x57 is a great cartridge and the quality is from another time.
