I picked this up and I am very happy to have matching Model 57’s and Model 27’s in both blue and Nickel! I paid a little more than I hoped for but at $1200 I’m very happy.

Not a fan of the front sight but oh well…..

Absolutely stole it. I gave quite a bit more for a 1978 blued 6" M27-2 with the case and accessories. The Patridge front sight seems to be the default for 6" barrels, mine has one and I love it. Looks better to me than the Baughman ramp alternative.

You did good on that one, a nice addition to the Family. Congratulations

The Patridge front sight was quite common on the 6" Model 27s, probably more common on the 6 1/2" guns

The only reason that my 6" nickel in the image has a red ramp is that I sent it back to the Factory in the 70s to have it changed

I paid $1200.00 for a Blued 5' gun. Gun only, no box, no papers, no presentation case and felt like I did pretty good. I have since bought a presentation case for it with new liners from a forum member and had Curt Harlow make me a beautiful set of grips out of English Walnut for it. My favorite S&W in my modest collection.

OP:

Congrats on that nickel 27 package. It looks beautiful!:cool:

Mark:

Great guns! Have you seen any 6" P&R 27s that came from the factory with something other than a Patridge front sight (I cannot remember seeing any - or maybe very few...)? My experience is that the 6" P&R 27s and pre-27s almost always shipped with the Patridge front sight. I have often wondered why that was the case, as almost all 6" HPs shipped with the ramp (which makes sense as they were meant to be holstered and the Patridge FS wreaks havoc on a holster). My experience is that front sights on other P&R 27/pre-27 barrel lengths were as follows:

* 6 1/2" - 40/60 Patridge/plain or red insert Baughman ramp

* 8 3/8" - 10%-25% red ramp, the balance are Patridge

* 5" - almost all of them are plain and red insert Baughman ramp

* 3 1/2" - all are plain and red insert Baughman ramp

As you note on your beautiful 6" gun, any could/can be changed after a gun leaves the factory, and special order guns could be had with different features, including the red post Patridge...

Richard,
I have a 27-2 4" with red ramp, an 8" with red ramp S241213. I have 4 - 6" guns and all are Baughman front sights. Those numbers you posted are great to know. I have never seen that info. Thanks.
