I have a 1954 Gun Digest which shows the Kit gun with Magna grips and the Target with the extended fancy grips ala the prewars. How long did S&W continue the old style grips?

S&W seldom threw away anything , so they kept on using up the inventory on hand of the extended stocks as long as any were left and they got orders from distributors for guns with the extended stocks. Ed.

The Gun Digest had a long lead time for publication, and, therefore, sometimes shows pics that are outdated by the time they are published. S&W made the I frame 22's after the war in small numbers, obviously using pre-war parts, or at least the pre-war designs, not getting them back into production till 1950. In 1953 the new kit gun and Target came out with the longer grips and larger trigger guard and coil spring. So, after 1953, I don't think you will see any of the old extended grips.
