Here's one I've posted before, second degree of Beakertness, "1007" on stock. Shipped 28 September 1911. My one and only Gunbroker purchase, August 2019. As Gunbroker tends to be full retail and then some—anyone with an internet connection and a wallet can partake—I assume, at least then, I paid close to full retail for it then. Decent condition, with bluing loss most prominent left side of muzzle. Had been listed at least once prior to my purchase of it on Gunbroker, with reserve not met with a $500 bid. I ended up bidding to meet the reserve, and the purchase price was $1070.75, which included shipping and FFL fees. But I wanted this one. Like I said in another thread, "'cause I just like the fancy font style and how it looks stamped into the walnut".

So, now what should something like this be worth? As, amazingly, I'm now seeing brick and mortar auction houses with on line venues offering standard, zero degrees of Beakert .22/32 HFT in similar condition as this one with opening bids of $850, and these are being met or exceeded. Add in commission, and one is substantially over a grand, even before sales tax, shipping, and FFL fees are added in. It wasn't that long ago that $300 or $350 got you a decent non Beakert .22/32 HFT revolver. I think the undiscovered "Annie Oakley" .22/32 HFT sold for $300 the last time prior to ownership being discovered, and that wasn't all that long ago.

There's many factors but in general:

All premium brand firearms appreciate in value to some degree once they're no longer made, especially the very old and those well preserved. The popular brands and models more so.

Of course the current low supply and high demand for new guns have driven those who like firearms to seek those they bypassed just a few years back, with new interest.

But probably more so for S&Ws as more and more people find this forum. The exposure and interest created here is a phenomenon that's truly hard to discount, hard to document, but is no less fairly obvious.

Just my observation.
