.22 LR Thunderbolt on sale

While the offer may look attractive, the price is way too high for Thunderbolts. Too much grief associated with the use of T'bolts. Yes, I do have personal experience.

Out of curiosity, what is the grief with Thunderbolts? I know they are hi velocity so they should work some semi auto conversion units ie 22 conversion kit after removing center fire barrel and slide. I've got such a kit but do not want to shoot a jacketed or copper clad bullet through the new 22 barrel.

I work part time for a large firearms retailer. We hear a lot of complaints about Remington Thunderbolt, chief among them FTF. Once we tell them to use CCI Mini Mag, the problems go away. If your .22 won't run on Mini Mag, it won't run...

Remington Thunderbolts are pretty reviled around these parts. They are considered bottom of the barrel, particularly for inadequate primer charging. I have literally seen guys at my range give it away even at the height of the rimfire ammo shortage.

I bought a brick of these years ago at Dicks. Worst ammo in the world. Super soft lead and fouling like I had never imagined. After a box, rounds start keyholing. I am surprised that Remington even attaches their name to this stuff. Just my 2 cents worth

I've heard negative comments about Thunderbolts on several occasions, but from my experience they have always performed very well. I haven't experienced any more failure to fires than I have with any of the other brands. I think a lot of it may have to do with how your particular individual firearm works with it.
Also, the fact that I haven't been able to find any brand 22 LR at Walmart since the last ammo buying frenzy started how many years ago?, made me glad to see it available, especially at this price.

Haven't used Thunderbolts in a long while and don't recall any ammunition malfunctions, etc., but if I wanted something accurate, I would look elsewhere.

Was in Cabalas in Augusta, Ga. today and they had a whole shelf full of .22's. Remingtons/Winchester/Federal & CCI....Bought a couple of bricks of Federals..........Academy had a lessor but plentiful stock of Aquila/CCi & Fed. match.......All was high....Cheapest $4.95/box of 50.

That seems like a high rice for T-bolts. Last time I was in Academy Sports, they were selling for about $29 plus tax.

Fwiw, my M&P 22LR is currently having no problems shooting T-bolts but I still can't shoot Remington Golden bullets. And the T-bolts aren't leaving me any of the crud described in the posts above this (so far, knock on wood). YMMV

I won't debate the goodness or badness of Thunderbolts as I have not used any recently. I have fired a lot of the Remington "Golden Bullet" bulk pack ammo, and I find it does have a propensity for FTF. No idea why a big outfit like Remington would skimp on QA in priming.

I was in a local gun shop earlier today - they had the 500 round Thunderbolt at $36.99 (plus tax). And lots of it.

Thunderbolt through my .22 compact and Ruger Single Six leave leading MUCH WORSE than seen in the pictures in post #9 above. Last cleaning after using them I had to use a .17 jag to get through the barrel.

However, they always fire for me, I've never had a FTF.

A few days ago I sold my last 750 rounds of Thunderbolt to someone who specifically asked if I had any for $25 just to make them go away.

The last box of Thunderbolts I bought was at a Sam's Club in the early '90s. So many FTFs that I nearly wore out my fingers re-charging the chambers of my .22 semiautos. Made a mental note that this stuff was poison. Don't know how it performs today, but the stigma lingers on.

I got rid of all of my Thunderbolt .22 ammo - OMG!!! Firing it in a Beretta Model 70 years ago got the gun so dirty that you could watch the slide go back and forth and it got progressively slower and slower. Nasty stuff!

"Jacketed" bullets in the .22lr are not really jacketed at all. It is a soft copper wash applied to the outside of the bullet. You can scratch it off with your finger nail. It will not harm your barrel in the least, and may actually help to prevent leading. Most all wear in a .22lr barrel comes from neglect, or improper cleaning.

One time I went to the range and forgot .22 ammo. The range only had T-Bolt for $2.50/50 (This is when the 550 Wally box was $10). I bought 4 boxes, got halfway through the 2nd in my MKII and finally gave up. Left 2 1/2 boxes on the lane barrier. Nope. Joe

It's now a moot point. They no longer have them in stock.

Cabela's has Winchester 333 box in stock for $19.99 if anyone is looking for .22LR ammo.

For the northern Ohio folks,Fin Feather Fur,only at the Middleburg Heights and their new Milan store, have 22lr on sale.
Winchester Power Point 40gr Rnd Nose Copper Plated 100rds/$8.99 limit 2
Federal Automatch 40gr 325rd brick for $19.99 limit 2
In store purchase only. I've been buying 2 of each, put 'em in the car and go back in and buy 2 more of each.
