Interested in the single shot Smiths maybe the 3rd or 4th. Don't know much about them. How available are they and where is the best place to buy from. I seem to be collecting more Smiths all the time and the singles have really captured my interest. Any help would be appreciated.

Single shots are where you find them. I'd watch the bigger auctions, Rock Island, Amoskeage, Little John's, etc. Then look over Guns International, Gumbroker, and your local area gun shows. The only one (3rd model) I have I found at a local area gun auction, (500 gun auction) that a local auctioneer has about twice a year. Become friendly with all the gun shops, and let it be known you're looking for one, and to let you know if one shows up. Be prepared to spend 4 figures, and for a 4th (straight line) be prepared for mid 4 figures.

David Carroll has several SS's in his current catalog (online----Google David Carroll guns). As I recall, he has/had one 3rd Model and three 1st's----or maybe one of the 1st's is a 2nd. Whatever, they're in the catalog-------in the anique section.

I went and looked-----he shows one 1st, 2 2nd's, and one 3rd. The 3rd is a 10" described as 99%----price is $1850---the others are higher.
