Hi Gents,

Is there a need to taper crimp this round? I've just finished loading 200 .223 55 gr./FMJ over 23 gr. of H-335. When I push the bullet tip into the wooden work bench firmly, the measurment does not change by my calipers dial. Am I OK to leave uncrimped? Thank you.

As long as your bullet is secure against feeding impacts and magazine battering, there is no need to crimp onto the cannelure. Military 5.56 NATO ammunition is crimped because it has to endure feeding vibration and impacts in everything from the M16 service rifle to M249 SAW and the Miniguns.

I've never found crimping to be necessary when loading for AR type rifles.

+1 on Mr. Travler's advice. I have shot 1,000's of uncrimped .223 rounds in competition and never, ever had a problem that was related to crimping or not crimping.

Thank you fellas, This ammo is for an AR rifle, but does not face rough abuse. This ammo is for plunking and rabbits.

Thanks again for the fast response.
