Yep. Mine is.
Mine shoots very well and is a fav for my granddaughters to shoot. Have you tried different types of ammo? Mine doesn't seem to be too picky about what I load it with.
The one I have has decent accuracy. It definitely, like .22's, In my experience, is picky on what ammo it likes. Mine really likes the Federal Automatch. My Mark 3 Ruger will out shoot it anyday, but the 22A is a good range gun. My friend likes to shoot it, and She can hold under 3inch groups at the 15yard line at the indoor range with it. Probably not considered accurate to some, but acceptable and confidence builder for Her.
Could be the ammo too. Rimfires are just notorious for not liking or liking specific brands of ammo.
Easiest way to test is have someone else shoot the gun. See if they get the same result(s). If so, there's your answer.
I recommend Blazer 40gr round nose. Very affordable, very reliable & very accurate. Back in the day, I got them at gun shows for a little under $20 a brick. You can find them for under $30 a brick with a little shopping.
Also check your muzzle crown for dings or uneven cut.

Sounds like yours just needs a firing pin spring replacement, IMO. I should say mainspring, perhaps?
SV is all I shoot in almost all of my rimfires. Why beat the gun up?

Mine was a fairly accurate pistol, on par with my MKIV.
Standard velocity is all I run in mine. 100% with SV.

S&W's line of 22 pistols (with the exception of the recently discontinued M41) are decently accurate but certainly not meant to be competition grade accurate. I'd classify them as more of a general purpose plinker than a true target model.
I believe that S&W recognized a long time ago that most 22 shooters are plinker's and not serious target or competition shooters, therefore they decided to make an affordable, somewhat accurate pistol that was priced competitively. They had to compete with the Ruger Mark 1-4 series, the Browning Buck Mark and the other popular priced 22 pistols on the market. They catered to target and competitive shooter's with their M41 (now gone from production).
IMHO the Ruger 5 1/2" "Target" model with a Volquartsen drop in trigger kit would be the way to go. For $700 bucks you get a really smooth, accurate and reliable pistol that will fulfill the needs and accuracy of most. IMO it will outshoot most casual shooter's. While there are more accurate pistols with better sights still available, they are much much more than $700 bucks! Ruger's customer service is also way better than the current S&W CS dept. - that's a fact!
