.22lr Ammo shortage is over!...?

Whooa, that can of CCI at that price would probably cause a stampede worse than Wal Mart on a Black Friday at my local Gander! I imagine there are people around here who would sooner line up for that CCI than a heavily discounted HD television.

The local Gander had these on sale back in early Spring of 2013, $99.99 each. I bought two, and that was the last time you could find it without waiting in line. Small shops & patience pays these days.

Once I see these readily available again then I will think the shortage is over.

The standard for me is my LGS once again selling Federal Champions by the case! In November of '12 they had three pallets of the stuff at $170/case. When I went back three weeks later for two more cases there was NO .22 LR in the store --- and hasn't been since.

I am seeing 22 ammo pop up at a lot of places that I have not seen before.
The problem is and will continue to be the stock piling of ammo.
Look at the 22 ammo thread on here. It appears and is gone in from 15 minutes to a couple of hours.
Until people change their mind set, it will continue with the panic buying.
Some of these people who are buying, state that they have 50,000 rounds of 22 and they want more.
I just saw some today at a local hardware store in 500 round and 333 round packs, which I have never noticed there before.

In recent weeks I have also bought Fed AM 325 rd packs from Midway for $16.99 and CCI Blazer 500 rd bricks for $20.99. The 3k back order set to arrive at the end of this week includes an ammo case of 1575 rounds of Fiochi 40g HV for $99, 1000 rounds of Win M-22 for $49.99 and 500 CCI MiniMag 40g for $6.69x5.

Cabelas has multiple CCI, Winchester and Remington packs in stock daily in Denver. 50, 100, 300, 333, 500 & 555 packs. I live virtually next door to the Lone Tree, CO store. I have plenty, but pick up some almost daily for co-workers and family on my way home from work.

I was just in West Lafayette, IN and I went to Walmart to grab a few forgotten supplies and wandered by the ammo case. It had a few hundred boxes of CCI 100 mini mag packs and a few Winchester 555 packs.

Online is even easier using gunbot.

Cabelas has had plenty online lately. Gander had CCI Mini Mags online and when I went to pick up my order they had about 10 sleeves of 500 on the shelf. Academy actually had the CCI Mini Mag 1600 round Plano online yesterday that I snagged. I posted it on the ammo thread, and I hope some of the people here picked them up also. I'm finally at the point now where I can be picky I what I'm buying now. Before I was just happy to buy anything that went bang. So maybe things are getting better.:D Anyone the says they can't find 22's now just are not looking or trying.

I tried to grab one of those 1600pk's, but when I went online (about 3 minutes after you posted), it said in-store only. Don't know if it does that when they sell out online, but I suspect that's what happened. Oh well maybe next time :)

Yes, they didn't last long. And I'm not sure how long they were on there when I found them. I was really looking for WMR ammo and stumbled on the 1600 pack. I was surprised I managed to get through checkout with Academy. Many times I have put things in my cart and by the time I get me CC info in and press checkout it says out of stock. I rushed through the checkout process so fast I forgot to get the WMR they had. :o I hate leaving my CC on file with these companies with all the hacking going on. But I suppose if I did I might be more successful.

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that Christmas could cause a rush on 22 ammo. I'm noticing A LOT of 22 rifles (mostly high capacity like the M&P 15-22) on sale right now. I wonder if this really will contribute to more empty shelves until next year?

I have about 15K rounds of 22LR in my safe, so I don't actively shop for more right now. But a couple of days ago I walked into a local Academy store for some hiking socks. Just our of curiosity I walked to the gun counter and looked up to where they keep the .22. Hey! I though, there are 10-12 boxes of 300 ct. CCI up there. Then I noticed three of the 1600 round mini mag ammo cans. I didn't need it, but hey . . . mini mags. Limit one, so I left with one. Oh . . . $119.99 or 23.99 for the 300 round boxes.

The shortage isn't over, but I have enough to last my son and I a year or so without buying any more.

CCI is the only .22lr i will buy considering i have more than enough to get through the next few elections. And i can find it every few days around here. Any other .22lr, u can just walk into wal-mart and buy all u want. No one buys it much around here anymore. I guess because they dont have any room to store any more. Much like me though, people tend to lean towards the CCI. When it shows up, its gone in a few days. But usually back in a few more days.

Cabelas had bricks out today instead of 50 round boxes. The Walmart had Winchester 555 boxes. People were walking by the ammo and not taking, which was surprising. Most were going for the discounted .223 next to the 22.

I believe things are normalizing - though the new normal price may be over 8 cents per round. I was surprised at how long Cabelas kept mini-mags in stock even with their increase limit of 5. I think that's a very good sign. Of course, 6 cents or less for mini-mags would be better but that will probably take a while if ever.

I was able to score 1,000 rounds of CCI SV .22 (500 from two different LGS') and thought that was pretty good. I'll have to check my big box stores as I'd like to have a little more on hand.

The two Cabelas stores in the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area have upped their limits on the amounts of .22lr ammo that can be purchased and have had good amounts of .22lr ammo )including several different bricks) on the shelves for about 6 weeks now. Prices are still higer than 5 years ago.

The Springfield Ore. Cabelas store recently had 100 rd packs of RGB's, 100 rd packs of Winchester red box @ $10.00 and CCI 50rd boxes @ $5.00. Also 500 rd bricks of, (I don't remember) @ $65.00. Five dollars for 50 average appears to be the new normal around this area.

I went to Cabela's in Glendale, AZ on Monday. They had a bunch of .22 LR ammo at around $29 a brick. I didn't buy any because I don't need them. 6 months ago I would have bought the limit regardless. Very telling.

Still having a hard time finding them locally. The two Walmart stores by me never have any. The sporting goods clerks, at both stores, tell me they still have the bullet grabbers lining up at 6 am waiting for 22lr's to be put out at 7. One of the clerks told me he is really sick of seeing the same 8-10 guys every morning, but says there is nothing he can do about it. Kind of sad. As for local gun stores, the only one that has any is the pawn shop and they want $65 for a brick of 400 American Eagle 22lr:eek:

There are 4 Walmarts and 2 BPS within a 40 mile radius of my house and NONE of them have any 22LR ammo with any sort of consistency. Sure on a given day U might get lucky and find 3 little boxes of 50 rounds of CCI, drive to the other Walmart and find nothing, come back to the previous Walmart every day for 2 weeks and find nothing. BSP is a hit or miss, mostly miss, and forget trying to buy more than 1 box. And if U try to be slick and come back 4 hours later after buying a box, guess what: SOLD OUT!

It's OVER..... I was at my local W/M today at 14:30 and they had at least 30 bricks of the Winchester 555, and 23 100 round red plastic packs of Winchester. The clerk told me its been there since yesterday, no one is waiting in line anymore 7:00, and i didn't buy any either!

Well, today I stopped in at Walmarts in Junction City, KS and Manhattan, KS. At the JC store, I was looking in the ammo case and the sales girl yelled out "sorry, no 22". Later I went to the Manhattan store and had to ask, "no .22, do not know when we will have any".

No relief here!

Our Walmart does not even have an ammo section, After a year they still tell me they are trying to find a distributor. Total BS in a liberal state.

The Academy sports near me has several different kinds of 22LR in stock in 50 round boxes, I got some American Eagle for $2.19 a box yesterday, 2 box limit so I will just go every day till my 50cal can is full (need probably another 800 or so rounds)

I am in Northwest Austin TX. There is another Academy a bit north of me that has 22LR in stock as well. Last week they both had Federal 325 bricks in stock for 17.95, one box limit.

The one walmart near me had some 100rd boxes of Super X winchester in stock, but it works like garbage in my 22 so I skipped it. They were gone the next day and no 22 since.

I told all of my LGS's with empty shelves this news. They were not convinced.
