Yep, haven't bought ANYTHING - new or old, long or handgun from a local shop in more than a decade. I'm also stuck in Jersey so the best I can figure is that the local shops want to share the pain of gun ownership here. I actually had a local shop REFUSE to handle any transfers for me because I bought NADA from him. Fine, I found a small FFL more than happy to take on my business at half of what I was paying for transfers, and I buy and sell a dozen or better every month because I can naviagate NJ SP-015 and SP-016 forms without issue. Not only do the locals charge 15% over MSRP for new guns, they take in JUNK and try to sell it at collector's premiums! Cannot wait for retirement to my land in OK!

Take a look at the number of bids and your question will be answered to an extent. Not 1 out of 40 will even have a bid. It also amuses me that when a guy has a gun with a reserve and a BIN price of $1200,some schmuck will have bid $200. Why even bother? Does he actually think that $200 will meet the reserve?

At a recent gun show I see a model 28 with a poor chrome finish that covered both the hammer and trigger....guy has a note saying factory chrome RARE..asking 650

These are crazy times. The economy is bad, driving prices down. At the same time, there are many new gun collectors who are willing to pay any price for their favorite gun. The gloom and doom people are recommending to stock up on guns; and this affects the price.It's all over the place. We get people who think they can get a nice Colt 1911 for $250 or a S&W revolver for $200. We also get people who don't even blink at prices. They'll pay any price for the right gun.

That's certainly true at my "local" Cabela's (2 hours away). I've purchased two guns from Cabela's, but I found them both at other stores and had them shipped to my store. A few of the stores around the country have decent prices.

It is not that I mind paying a fair price for a gun--might even pay a little more for one I want that is decent shape. I like shooter and don't collect.
BUT--when they want what I paid for a very good 28-2----Well, lets just say I was born at night but not last night.
If I were to buy that gun it would take $2/300 to get it up to speed of the price they are asking.
I just think there must be a lot of folks that don't know what they are doing to drive up prices to the level I see being asked.

My wife said I'm running out of room in the vault and doesn't know where I'm going to put any new guns. She thought I should try to sell some that I don't shoot much, so I agreed with her and listed five on GB last year. They just don't seem to be selling. I keep relisting them, but nobody even bids on them.

Well, except this one guy who keeps bidding $200 on my $1200 BIN priced pistol.

The huge gun store I mentioned in my earlier post has a S&W Recon .45 ACP 1st model with the extended compensated barrel. It is in about 90% condition with the evidence of thousands of rounds shooting. No box, one mag; had been $659. They've had it for over a year. I've offered $600 OTD and a salesman says that is the standing offer from just about everybody who looks at the gun. Last week they had upped the price to $699. Nuts is what they are.....
