How much of a PITA would it be to cut down one of the new 6.5" barreled Model 25 Classics to 5"?

A 5" 27 is close to perfection, I feel like a 5" 25 would be sweet.

I haven't seen one in person so I'm not sure how the ramp/rib on those new light profile barrels is attached. Is it soldered on? Forged integral to the barrel?

For a decent gunsmith, it is not too much of a job, merely money. For an amateur gunsmith, a bit more work. I am not familiar with the specifics of the -15 but even if the front ramp is pinned in place, you need to remove it, chop and crown the barrel and then machine a spot of the rib for the ramp to sit. Make sure it is perpendicular to the bore and join it back on. Now, you have to decide if the existing front sight needs to be altered.

I have done it myself, with a Model 1917, no ramp, no rib, just remove the existing front sight, shape the base to fit the barrel and solder in place. I have also bought a different barrel, shortened and relighted for a lot less work. More dollars but much easier to install.

If you don't mind the inscription, you might be able to find a Model 26-1 Georgia Highway Patrol commemorative cheaper than buying the 25-15 and having the work done.

I was just thinking about this on Sunday. The 26-1 bid is the beat number, and it's not 2k. It's closer to 3k. Plenty of head room if you start with 25-15….and you're getting a better cylinder IMO.

I'd like to have one in 4" myself, but 5 would be okay. I can't figure out why Smith won't offer a shorter barrel than the 6.5"…

That's. 25-13 Mountain Gun. Smith actually did that one, and they are nice.
