Just picked up this S&W and I'm a little confused about it. Hoping someone can help me out and identify it.
Says mod. 25-2 under cylinder lug serial # N3780XX with 45 cal. MODEL 1955 stamped on right side of barrel and SMITH&WESSON on the other. Barrel is 6 1/2 inches long.
Dealer I bought it from had it marked as a 45 colt but it is actually a 45 ACP. Which actually makes me happier as it will fit in nicely with my 2 325's M&P 45's and 1911's.
Sure looks to be stainless not nickel but the info I'm finding says it can't be stainless?? Shouldn't it be a 625-2 not a 25-2 for blued?
Thanks for the help.

From the pictures it appears to have a hard chrome satin finish. This is evident especially when examining the trigger and hammer, both would have been color case hardened originally. It will be a good shooter but collector value is gone.

I don't know about the chrome. Pulled the grips off and it's dull. Looks like a poor polishing job on a stainless gun that we have all seen. I know it looks all shiny like chrome in the pictures but in person the hard to reach areas are dull unpolished.

I believe Model19man nailed it. The pinned barrel went away before the M625 was introduced so it can't be a M625.
Even though not a collector piece it should be a real good shooter.

It might have been plated with a process called Armoloy, best I remember it came out satin finished. Jeff
