25 Years...

Congrats. 32 years here. I think every man that has double digits of marriage is a lucky guy with a great woman. We eloped on Thanksgiving. We had the judge marry us and his 3 daughters were our witnesses.

I wanted to elope or at least just have a judge do it, but her mom was still in charge of her kids, especially her baby daughter! So, Rose’s new son-in-law got to pay for everything. Oh, well, not a bad investment. I’d probably be dead if not for her, so there’s that, too.

Congratulations!

Mrs. swsig and I just celebrated our 51st anniversary. She's as beautiful as ever. Because she has a PhD in psychology, I've never been able to put anything over on her. Fortunately, she's also a native Texan, so she indulges the gun-loving side of myself.

Anyway, here's my secret to a long and successful marriage: "Yes, dear."

My Father-in-law offered us $10,000 cash, or pay for a wedding. That was a lot of money at the time. Like a down payment on a house and then some.

We decided we'd take the cash. He was disappointed with the decision. He reneged and threw the wedding. He spent more than the $10,000 on it. Two years later he gave us the down payment for a house anyway.

Funny how things work out. We weren't upset about it. His money, he can do what he wants.
 
Hey, Way congrats, Its really wonderful to find someone to share life with. I feel sorry for some of my buds who split up or lost their spouse and now approaching 70s are by themselves. Some like it, they say, but I am not sure. Next year is our 30th. If something happened to her , I would just find a cave somewhere.
Would still have my TV to watch old westerns and war movies and my gunsafe. But life would be way different.

There are a few things that I can say.....

...that I did well. First was marrying my wife. 45 years later, I'm still here, whereas I might not be if I were left to my own devices, or vices or whatever.

The second thing we both did right was adopt, and even though the growing up part was VERY hard indeed, our son is now young man working toward success.

MOST everything else I have ****** up rather badly, but the good outweighs the bad.
 
Congratulations ! 25 years of marriage is half a lifetime when you reach it, for most. I'm at 32 years with the same fine woman and I didn't get married until I was 37. My two best friends both celebrated their 50th anniversaries this year, they both got married right after HS graduation.
