Food for thought. I bought that very gun, 27-2 5" new in 1973. I see where I paid $168. I think tax included. I just ran a CPI calculator on it in todays price. That would be like paying $783.65 OTD today.
Dont know what a collector would pay, just thought it interesting.

Local dealer had one like you describe for close to $800 and it sat around for a while, although I don't think the price was unfair. If you can get it for under $700, you are doing very well.

In today's market that is a good price, I'd do it before it's gone. I've had a 27-2 that I had converted to .44 Special, it was a shooter gun of course. Currently there are two 5" pre-27's in my vault, one is a 95% gun that I paid $600.00 for earlier this year. The other had signifigantly less finish and was the basis for a Hamilton Bowen .44 Special conversion. While I prefer the early 5 screw models, if I had the opportunity to purchase the 27-2 that you're considering, it would be a done deal!
