27-2 grip change timeline?

Picked up this Mar 1969 27-2 and was reading about grips.


When did the switch from magna grips to target grips become official? was it at the same time the counter-bored cylinder was dropped?

According to the SCSW 4th Ed. the switch to Target stocks became official in 1980.

The elimination of the cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel was 1982 with the -3 version.

Smith placed the full target configuration on the model 27 when they began shipping with the wood box in September 1975.

Did all 27's ship with a wood box for a time after 9/75, or was it an option? If it was standard, when did that practice end?
