I have a 27-2, serial #S311375. It has the target grips with the football cut, but they are not numbered. Grips are not diamond grips. Correct????

I say correct. Your S 311xxx is a high S number before smith changed to N serial numbers. I am guessing 1968/69 production, and the diamonds would have just been dropped from the target grips a yr or so prior to that. Target grips were not generally numbered. It is what I would expect to see.

Check to see what color the washer is behind the stock circle and medallion... it should be black. Non-diamond, black washer stocks are not common.

The diamond was dropped around S298000. Target stocks usually are not numbered even if original. I believe these are correct for your 27 but no idea if original to that particular gun.
