Recently I saw a LNIB 27-5 3 1/2" go for over $2,000 on Gunbroker. In 1991 there was a limited run/reintroduction of 1500 27-5 revolvers with 3 1/2" and 5" barrels. These were not pinned or recessed.

Would you place these guns at a premium over the 27-2s?

Just wondering what the experts think.

I dont consider myself a expert but I belive they would have a hard time getting $2,000 from me. I think there has to be some NIB 27-2s in 3 1/2" out there somewhere for less than that!

No recessed cylinder? No pinned barrel? I know for some that doesn't make a difference but to alot of collectors, it does. When I can get a 27-2 for half of the price of that 27-5, well I'll take it anyday of the week.

I think it must have been the limited production, or a collector looking to fill the empty spot.

I saw that same deal. The individuals who posted that gun are a couple from Florida who 1. Have very nice guns when they do post. 2. Do an excellent job of wiping them with a lint free cloth for the photos. 3. Do an outstanding job of taking the photos in outdoor natural light setting without a lot of reflection. A picture is worth a thousand words? Apparently it is worth a thousand dollars also, because that gun sold for about a thousand more than it was worth. There was, at that same time, on the Cabela's Gun Library, a twin to the GB gun. It had been on there for around $800-$900, and had been there for quite a while. After the GB deal, it disappeared witin a couple of days. Have you ever noticed if you own a dog and a cat, that get along fine, if another dog comes along and starts to chase the cat, your dog will follow suit? I am 57 years old, and at 21 had my first job buying firearms for a department store's stock. I worked for them for a number of years, and the " I want what everybody else is buying " syndrome was around even then. I personally stop looking at 27s and 29s after the -2. Am I an expert? No! I just don't like the later models, and won't buy one because someone else does. Dave, I second your motion!

I'm not seeing it.

Rich blue over a highly polished piece of art, checkered top strap and deluxe sights and pinned barrel and recessed cylinder.

As opposed to...

Dull black finish, no top strap checkering, crush fit barrel, IL, MIM, and a set of grips that are - to put it kindly - ****.

Nope, not seeing it.

Ditto!

Was the 27-5 one of the eight shot cylinder models? I can see someone going nutty for one. I'm not saying I would dish it out but I would love to have a 3.5 or 4 inch 27 with an eight shot cylinder. But I would still want the 27-2 also...

The 27-5 is a 6 shot and looks almost the same as the 27-2 with the exceptions that the cylinder is not recessed, the barrel is not pinned and it has a small trade mark stamp on the "left" side. I think they all came with target stocks. It has the same high polish blue and checkered topstrap.

about a year ago i picked up a 27-5 5" in about 97% that was a part of this special production run.....it shoots great ! it was priced well below $650 otd

Many times on auction sites there develops a form of madness wherein the eventual buyer MUST have an item, pricing be damned. Have seen that happen time and time again where the excitement and desire to win overcomes financial sense or even common sense. Great for the seller, buyer wakes up with "whatdidijustdoitis".

That's why TONS of offers usually flood in in the last few minutes of a popular model or item.

More power to em. Hope they enjoy a gun they purchased for at minimum 2X the "going rate". To each their own.

Do you ever think that part of it is the "showing everyone that I can afford it"?

Kind of, but I'll admit that I have been guilty of this as well from time to time. :) Is it a form of comparing the size of...well, you know? Probably to some. But I think it's more to do with "must win" than anything else. Like everything though, doing your homework on what something costs or is worth is up to the buyer. Truly life is harder if you're stupid.
