my lgs has three N-frames im interested in but of course i can only afford one at the moment. this will be my third smith revolver so i am by no means an expert. im looking for price checks and opinions on the three following guns all of which appear to be around 95%.

1) model 27-2, 6 inch, blued, combat hammer, combat trigger, magna stocks, asking price $730.

2) model 28-2, 4 inch, combat hammer/trigger, target stocks with speed loader cutout, asking price $730.

3) model 27-2, 3.5 inch, hard chrome finish, 3 T's, metal base plate on bottom of stocks, asking price $1000.

let me know what you guys think.

BigBill i like the way you think. is the 3.5 incher really worth that much even with a non original finish though?

Are you sure all are original finish? The 27s seem priced too low (not a bad thing). The 28 seems fair. Thread title says 29. If it is a 29 for $730, that is probably as good a deal as #3.
If you can only have one, and all are original, I agree that #3 is the most desireable deal.

About four years ago my online guy offered two m28 & one m28-2 for $695 each two are 99% one is 98% and two m27-2 for $795 one blue one nickel both 99%++ condition
I jumped on them all 6" barrels. I just dont see them locally. I figure one chance at a few. Like the pickers on tv bundle it.

sorry i meant model 28 not 29. i will take a closer look at the blued 27 when i go back, but #3 definitely isnt original finish. although the blued 27 does come with box and papers which leads me to believe it is original.

Based on what you have said I would say the best buy of the three
is the 6" 27-2. The 3.5" 27-2 with an aftermarket chrome (or nickel?)
refinish for $1000 doesn't seem like a screaming deal to me even with
the popularity of the 3.5" length barrel. Depending on how a refinish
is done there are several things about a quality closely fitted revolver
that may be irretrievably lost with a refinish.

For me, it would be the 28, 4". The reason being, is that I currently have a 6" 28 no dash. If I had a bunch of money, would want #1 too! Bob

I would be all over the Model 27-2 with 6 inch barrel, box and papers because to me it's the best looking S&W revolver with it's checkered top strap and high luster blue.

I don't even know how this is comparable. The 6" 27-2 is a smoking deal. The 28 is just okay at best.

The 3.5" in hard chrome is not a good deal at all.

I would grab the 6" M27 and put the M28 on layaway if I couldn't work a decent deal on both. Sometimes we can't afford things we know we may not get the opportunity get again anytime soon, so we just bite the bullet! ;)

Sorry, I missed your original post that clearly stated "Hard Chrome."

I think I'm going to try to get a deal for the 2 originals and put 1 of them on layaway (the model 28). It's such a shame that the 3.5 incher isn't original, or at least in the same price range as the other 2. Here's a picture for you guys.
