Greetings,

I know that older 29 and 629 series (pre-endurance package) are supposedly "OK" with standard factory 240 gr ammo, such as WWB or AE.

Are the Federal 300 gr Cast Core LFP or the Speer 270 gr Gold Dot JSP
"OK" as well? Even though they use heavy bullets, the total energy is similar to the 240 gr loads, and they are NOT uploaded like the Buffalo Bore, Corbon, Grizzly, Garrett, or Doubletap products.

Thanks!

I have a 629-2 and I wouldn't use them. Unless you're hunting big bear, moose, or perhaps elk, what would you need them for? a 250 gr Keith can shoot lengthwise through a deer from a 44 mag.

A steady diet of any full power loads will take it's toll on any of the older 44 magnum N frames. I shoot full power loads up to 240gr sparingly but load down to more moderate velocities for most shooting and see no reason to go to heavier bullets.

It's my personal opinion but I think too many people jumped on the "bigger bullet is better" bandwagon. Granted, in some cases a bigger bullet is better but I still believe that for anything in the lower 48 a 240-250 gr. bullet is plenty, provided it's loaded properly and shot placement is taken into consideration. The .44 Magnum was designed to shoot the 240 gr. bullets. A lot of the bigger bullets don't stabilize as well, especially the 400 gr. stuff
