Welcome to the Forum! Lots of Model 28 (and Highway Patrolman) fans to be found here, as well as a wealth of information. I have three Model 28-2s from the same time period (N200000 to N299999; 1974-1977) and they are outstanding revolvers. Nothing fancy, but they're built like tanks and fun to shoot. Both the revolver and magna wood stocks of your new acquisition appear to be in excellent condition, and so does the box. The prices for Model 28-2s have been skyrocketing lately, so hopefully you got a good deal at the pawn shop. Enjoy!

4" N213329
4" N255229*
6" N275854*
*According to the "SCSW 5th Ed.", approx. the last half of the N200000 range and most of the N500000 range consists mostly of M28s and M58s. After 1980, the M28 serial numbers were merged with the other N-frame s/n ranges.

Thanks for the information I appreciate it all . My dad had a 6 inch highway patrolman and I loved it so I was looking for years for a 4 inch one and hit a jackpot on this one I paid $800 i believe it was a fair price to pay for everything original and in in great condition. Was that a good price to pay? . Also those original grips i have do they raise the value any, not looking to sell it just trying to get a worth on it if you guys have info on that as well.

A few years I picket up this 28-2 from police auction EUR 240

Looks like a winner to me! You can't go wrong with a 4" Highway
Patrolman, and they are going up in value, especially lately in the 5th Edition of the Standard Catalog.

Carefully remove the stocks and see if the guns serial number is stamped into the wood of the right hand panel. Based on it's near-new condition and completeness I would guess that it is. Having the original stocks would definitely help with the gun's value.
If the number doesn't match or isn't there, then they were swapped out somewhere along the way. Not a deal breaker so don't loose too much sleep over it if that's the case.

Very nice!

Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson 4th edition shows all guns in the N500000 range as shipping from 1978-1980. The factory can give you a month and year if you ask them.

Does his have Magna stocks like your 4"? As I understand it, the only available factory option with the Model 28 was target stocks. Unfortunately a lot of times the originals get misplaced when the owner puts on a set more to their personal preference.

Like father like son, good taste in guns!

The original stocks not sure where they are but we're replaced, He had everything original but not sure where the box and stocks went to he replaced the stocks around 94 our 95 . I appreciate all they help.

why it has mod 28 also on it.

I don't understand this question. Why would it not have MOD 28-2 on it? That's what it is, and the MOD number is in the place it was normally in that period. The Highway Patrolman Model 28-2 lasted from 1961 until 1982. They were all marked MOD 28-2 in the yoke cut; the only exception would be if a fitter simply failed to stamp it.

My bad on the question on the mod 28 ,I knew what it meant I was just thinking mine didn't have it thats why maybe I should have double checked before sounding stupid lol. Thanks for the info
