28-2 Grip question

I just picked up this 28-2 sn N279XXX. I started looking around for a mid 70's style factory target grips, and started wondering if there were any of these that had Pachmyers on them from the factory. I think i've seen that, many years ago, but not sure.
These are the Presentation grips, but with no medallion.

I don't ever remember that vintage 28-2 coming adorned with Pachmyer grips, the 28-2's that I have came with magna grips. I upgraded mine with the Smith and Wesson factory target grips, either walnut or goncalo alves.

Most Model 28's came with the magna stocks. Some were ordered with the target stocks. None came from the factory with rubber stocks. Production of the Model 28 ended in 1986, I don't think S&W put rubber stocks on any revolver before 1990.

Just as stansdds said, either magnas or sometimes targets came on the Highway Patrolman.

Agree that Pachmyer grips never came on a model 28 from the factory.

Mine came to me from my brother wearing Pachmayr grips.
Shipped from the factory wearing Checkered Walnut Magna stocks.



And it currently wears Target Stocks.

I have been told that the vast majority of M28s were shipped with Magna grips.

In the seventies, if you were lucky enough to find a Smith and Wesson with adjustable sights, you didn't question the type of grips that came on it. You wouldn't wait until you could order it with the grips you preferred. Additionally, the factory target grips were relatively inexpensive, I think my first set were less than $20. The first Pachmyer grips that I remember, standard from the factory, were on a model 625, 1988?. The factory changed to Hogue grips a couple of years later.

No diamonds after 1966, I believe.

On K and N frame target stocks, the management order (#1032) to eliminate the diamond was issued on December 28, 1967. Diamond targets for both sizes continued to ship until the supply ran out.
