And yes., top strap is usually flat I think.
It’ll be a nice looking shooter for sure.

28 top straps are radiused...sides and front. That one has been ground flat...No telling what was done inside......I would not touch that gun with a 19 foot pole......All 28's came in cardboard boxes with magna grips....Having a case means nothing.....It gets chunked on a closet shelf while the gun gets used.

I think you bought a very nice model 28 that has probably been refinished and has the incorrect rear sight assembly. I think the pictures make some other things look suspect, but there is really nothing else wrong with that revolver that I see. I have a refinished shiny 28-2 that was done by Fords. My older picture doesn't do it much credit, as in person it looks as good as most model 27's I see. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of yours after you pick it up.

I’m glad I saw these posts I was just about to put up a 95%+ 4” m28 for $850 with a letter. Now me thinks I’ll wait awhile if shooters are going at $700 +, $800+ by the time smoke clears.

Looks nice enough, but the stocks aren't original (unless a special order) as the standard stocks for M28's were walnut magnas. The rear sight is definitely not original, it is ribbed and the factory M28 had a smooth rear sight along with the top strap and the barrel rib. There's some issue with the top strap, it looks peened and sort of rough. I'd be suspicious of a refinish, the roll stamp on the barrel's right isn't as crisp as it should be and the overall finish looks too shiny. The trigger guard is almost a matte finish from the factory. SN puts this gun somewhere between 1969-1972. Here's one from 1973, compare your roll stamp and the rear sight to yours.

A previous owner must’ve preferred a white outlined rear sight. I know, I do.

Well, I got two 28-2 4”.
This particular polished one I didn’t shoot yet, and I’ll get pics shortly…

I’d been away for four months on the road and during that time I ordered no less than 11 SW revolvers.

I’ll take a bunch of pics of that polished 28 since it’s more unusual that a regular bead blast.
I’ll take it out sometime next week.
