Looking for the year it was made 28-2 ser. S2244xx, any help would be very appreciated, it is about perfect,95% to 98% gun,orignal owner brought it in at a local shop tonight,asked them to hold it till tomorrow morning for me,to let me think about it,6"barrel,no box or docs,asking $699.00. If I pick it up I will post pics. Thanks

I had a 28-2, mid 70's N serial number with box, paperwork, and tools, unfired, except for factory,listed on this forum for $700.00…..no bites….sold it at a local gun show for $675.00……even though the one you are looking at is a "S" serial number, I would guess the condition, and no box, or "goodies" would reduce the price to $575.00-$625.00…..maybe less, other areas of the country may differ.

Guns in NY are pricy and 700 bucks seems a bit high for a 6" 28-2 to me. But if it makes you happy, go for it!

I think you did well on that. I couldn't turn it down at $700 with those diamond target stocks.

I'd value it at $800.00 ($500 for the gun and $300 for the stocks)

If you are interested in S&W, this is the book to have - 3d edition (2006) is the most current. Full of good info, despite some known errors. Somewhere on this forum is a list of the latter.

Thanks for all the great info,I went out and bought the book this morning,I am not a big "N" frame guy but I could not let this get away,might have got bit by the bug,I like K & L frames also have a bunch of J frames,I really like top breaks I have been collecting them for 20 years,never got into the big guns, the only one I have ever really wanted is a 629-2 Mountain Revolver.It still eludes me.
