I have a 28-2 which has been rebarreled at some stage in its life.
The only marking on the barrel is S R SMITH.
Any clues.
Regards Daffy.

Was the caliber changed? Many years ago it was not unusual to rechamber and rebarrel model 28s to 45 or 44 caliber.

No, still a 357. I have a letter from S&W showing delivery date and the Wholesaler but the trail has ended so I have had to hop of my horse and scout around.SR SMITH stamped on the barrel may be a gunsmith that someone knows of.
Regards Daffy.

Its stamped on the left side close to the chamber. The letter from S&W states that the gun was delivered to Howco Distributors Laurel,MD on July 28 1972 with a 6 inch barrel and checkered walnut grips in a batch of 20 all the same.At some stage the gun has been rebarreled.Regards Daffy.

It shoots ok.I'm in Australia and trying to trace the gun's history ie what path has it taken to get from the S&W factory to me.But hang on a minute, maybe I have too much time on my hands for such frivolity.
Have S&W ever made a single action like a Colt SSA?
Merry Christmas to all.Regards Daffy.
