E511F13F-4763-4134-92B9-9D81D1C56FB4.jpgSo I'm still pretty new to collecting Smith&Wesson I currently have a pre-model 29 and also a model 29 no dash and several early 29-2 guns .So one night talking to a friend of mine that is a long time collector of smith&Wesson revolvers also a member of this forum I ask him how come you see all these pre 29s and 29 no Dash and 29-2 guns but you never see a 29–1? he pretty well told me I would probably never have my hands on one unless I was extremely lucky. Well call me lucky two weeks later I was shopping for my wife's Christmas gift and I thought to myself I better check out the guns upstairs at our local Scheels in Springfield Illinois. looking at the used guns a salesman walks up to me and I ask him how come you guys never have any old Smith&Wessons he says well did you see the two in the bottom of the gun case over here? he proceeds to point them out I looked in the case and I see model 29–1 and my heart stopped there set a 6 1/2 inch 29-1 I couldn't hardly wait to get my hands on it to make sure it wasn't a miss print on the tag lo and behold it was a 29–1 here are some pictures and also the letter I just received on the gun along with my other early 44s from bottom up Pre 29 29 no dash and 29-1.

The only thing that could make that story more fantastic would be if it turned out to be a 4-screw gun.

We just gotta know, how much did you give for it?

I've known Frank since he was in kindergarten, He called me
while he was in the LGS and found the 29-1 it took 45 minutes to get him, settled down……………., stop shaking……………and repeating himself, "This cannot be a model 29–1"……….., so he could get his credit card out of his billfold………………. but I guarantee you nobody was getting between him and that display case during that time………..😎

You did better than "well," you did extremely well. Yours was not on the known list so you have number 56 found so far, at least based on the list I have. As to the price, I paid $3500 for mine a couple years ago and have seen them go for more. Great find!

You showed us a couple but how about a family photo of your 29-1 with more of your favorites. Here's mine; first year 4 inch 5 screw pre-29, 4 screw 6.5 pre-29, no dash, -1, and my favorite (and first 44) -2.
