29-2 5 inch ?

Looking for information about 29-2 5 inch, some details as follows
serial # S237xxx
Large "&" on the barrel
Confirmed 5 inch I measured it from cylinder
target hammer, target trigger, red ramp, white outline rear sight.
Coke grips, finish blue 95% or better
I get 1964 mfg. from S&W book.

My question is was this a production option for that time frame?
Any input would be appreciated.

Yes, there were limited runs of 5" model 29s, many of which went to HH Harris and other prominent S & W dealers of the day. Photos would help for originality of the barrel but a letter of authenticity would be necessary to confirm. Doc44 may be along with more comments.

The "second run" of Model 29-2s with a 5-inch barrel dates to 1963 with a few shipped in 1964. Your revolver is most likely correct, but only a check of factory invoices can verify the original barrel length. If the 29-2 was mine, I would definitely letter it when requests are accepted again on January 24, 2022.

Great find!! from what I understand, HH Harris ordered 500 in 1958, and if anyone knows how many were actually delivered, I have not heard of it. There was a long thread on the old forum some time ago, but I have not been able to find it again. There are not many available, and they do sell for big money. Yours is in the right serial number range, and looks right. There were some that were cut to 5 inches, and probably sold as original factory issue, so a letter is a must to verify it is a factory one.
