Got the itch for a 29-2, 6", or 6.5 inch. Can someone let me know what the current range for Blue & Nickel finishes should bring in the 90% condition range. Looking at gun broker I'm seeing $899.$1,600. How much does the box, tools, etc.. or any box included add? Thanks in advance.

You are on the right track when you do a survey of GB to get an idea of current prices. High condition, originality, and rarity make something more collectable which translates into prices at the high end of the range. You have to educate yourself on what features are rare.
I would hope to find something like you describe in the $1,000 range, give or take a hundred or two. With box, tools, etc., add a hundred or so more. With wooden presentation case fitted to that gun, plus all original accessories, I'm guessing you would have to add two hundred. The thing is, for one in 90% condition and a common barrel length, you're really not going to interest collectors much. So do you really want to pay more for boxes, etc?

Don't forget the coke grips on the older ones that can run the price up. Actually, the one's that have been stripped are priced about $300-$400 under what the properly equipped model sells for, or should be.
The Woodlawn Boys only sell guns in exceptional condition. Their reputation is impeccable and buyers can make a bid knowing what they might get if their pockets are deep enough. Quality gets a premium.

Just as no two guns are exactly the same, no two auctions (or bidders) are the same. Put a NIB 6.5" model 29-2 up for auction, and unless the Buy Now price is low and it is snapped up cheaply no two sales prices will be the same. One bidder is looking but not interested at top dollar; another wants it up to full market value; and sometimes the winner literally doesn't care how much they have to pay, they want and will get it.
GB is a good value barometer, especially if you average out prices. Call the one the OP wants at about $700 for 90%, and correspondingly higher if he really means 95-97%.

Could it be because Dirty Harry used a blued gun?
I'm partial to nickel myself, but wouldn't object to a nice blue the #'s seem higher than I'm budgeting..

You are probably looking at high three dollar figures for a lightly used 29-2. I think the "Eastwood effect" is operating here, in that blue 6.5" models like the movie gun are close to 4" in value, and nickel guns bring less than blue.
At an estate auction here in Virginia yesterday a blue steel 4" M29-2 went for $660. Pistol & holster but no box.

The posts give good advice.
Do your homework. Be patient. You will eventually be comfortable judging a reasonable deal. The only advice I see in which I would offer a different opinion is the price from Jack Flash. For a 90% gun I think $1,000 is about $100-500 too high depending on your location, face to face transaction versus auction versus LGS. On the other hand Jack Flash is spot on about surveying GB and educating yourself. Regarding nickel versus blue price the transactions I have observed show the nickel bringing about 10% more. Another trend is the shorter the barrel the higher the price.

Agreed, except I'm seeing 6" blues going for north of $1500 in nice condition say 95-98%. Then I see an un-fired nickel with boxes, paperwork with a buy now for $1,375.... My 90% gauge was inaccurate, I want a shooter, but a clean shooter, if that makes sense. I like to keep my guns clean.
your best bet is to buy one here.Seems this place has the lowest prices I have seen to date.Maybe some of the posters who think you can expect to pay under $700.00 will put one up for sale.
They are increasing in value thats for sure. Maybe they will decrease also, all I know is if you see something you really like dont quibble over a hundred bucks or so if you can afford it just buy it, 6 months from now you probably wont even remember how much it costs.

I once traded pair of fiberglas bumpers ($400) for a '62 Pontiac for a blued 8 3/8" -29-2 & a 15-3, 1 1/5"...........got the wooden box & accessories w/ M-29. I am real sure this kind of deal doesnt come along very often. I have no idea where this guy got these guns as he sure didnt know anything about them other than he tried to shoot a groundhog in his back yard in Akron from inside the bathroom window. His wife wanted him "out" of guns right now.......
Next -29-2, 6", came from a private estate sale, it and a 1935 PPk & Taurus M-63 & a 1950's Win M-70 (270), & an 18-3, 4", missing the rear site for $1500. Got the wooden box & stuff with 29 too. I also have a 29-2 6.5 nickle, just cant remember where it came from, or anything else about it. Nickle gun in the blue box is kinda neat, I think it is my favorite.
Now that I am hunting a -57 first run, I cant find one........has to be FTF.......I am done w/through the mail. I ended up with a correct box from an estate sale, but had an M-27-2, 6" blue in it, have 2 of them now.
I wasnt even looking for these when they came along. Certainly happens that way now & again.......!!!!
Hard to tell a guy to hang in there, his turn is coming.........I dealt with a MG dealer in Pitts. who always told me "Thats too much $$$ for that gun, I will get you one cheaper......", he never did......so I missed out on some really good buys as the MG market has 1000%ed or more.

Something that no one has mentioned is the serial number prefix! The 1968 Gun Control Act required S&W to change their serial numbering system. Pre 1968 they used an "S" serial prefix and after 1968 they used an "N" prefix. Granted, all this does is date the gun. However, an S serial number prefix will bring a higher price than a comparable N serial prefix. This dating will effect the price of the period correct presentation case, box, grips and tools/paperwork! Considering the -2 guns were produced for 20+ years, the DOB has the largest effect on the price of any 29-2!

I have bought 3, 29-2s in last 6 months. One from forum and two
at shows. $800@ for nice shooters,no box, ect. N prefix. The ones at shows were priced higher by $50-$100, they were fairly
