29-2 grip

question, I have a 1979 29-2 44 mag., does anybody make a left hand factory style wood grip? the finger next to my thumb always gets cut due to the cylinder ejector button when I shoot.i called S&W, and they do not offer anything. bought a hogue grip , but not the same feel, any info would be helpful......thanks

Don't understand your question. What do you mean by LH style wood grip?

Tape up whatever finger gets cut. The way I shoot my right thumb knuckle gets beat up by the cylinder release latch on my older N frames. A little wrap with some tape and all is good.

The finger next to your thumb is your index/trigger finger if you are shooting left-handed; i.e. pulling the trigger with your left hand. Are you shooting one-handed or two? Do you have strong hands and wrists? A firm grip prevents the gun from getting loose in your hand. When I shoot big boomers I wear batting gloves on both hands.

I don't know of any magic stocks that can totally protect hands.

sorry was multi tasking while trying to type, yes I shoot one handed, yes I have a strong grip, the cut occurs between trigger finger & thumb, I guess I could just tape that part up , but the factory grip has a notch for right handed shooters, was wondering if there was a grip with a notch for left handers.….

Are you referring to the extractor relief (football) cut at the top of the left grip panel? That isn't meant for right or left hand shooters - as from the name - it is a relief cut for the extractor star.

You might be able to find some old Target stocks that had no relief cuts, but they are hard to find, and pricey when you do.

If you are shooting "bullseye style" i.e. one-handed, why not spring for a set of Herretts left-handed target grips. That should solve your problem.

(Of course for the left-handed grips, the thumb-shelf would be on the right panel - pictured are right-handed grips)

I shoot always one handed, and this is the reason because I own a lot of thumbrest grips. If you do it left handed, you can wait without any hurry, and make a constant search on eBay. If you type "target grips" a huge world will open to you.
Occasionally a left handed thumbrest set appears on auction. I love Herrett's, Fitz, SILE and similar vintage stuff.
