29-2 NIB values

What is the difference in value between unfired 29-2s in the
diffent barrel lengths? In my area the prices seem to be higher
for 83/8" guns, while on line it seems 4" guns are going for a
couple hundred more. The 61/2" guns account for 75% of guns
for sale locally.

In my experience, the 8 3/8" barrel examples will sell for less than either the 6" or 6 1/2" guns. The 6 1/2" barrel was discontinued in 1979, and tends to sell for a slight premium over the 6". The 4" is relatively uncommon, so it also gets a premium, usually more than the 6 1/2".

The last 6 1/2" Model 29-2 that I purchased was in 98% condition with no box or other accessories. I paid $850 and felt that I did pretty well on the deal.

JP@AK is spot on OP. The shorter barreled versions command higher prices and always have in my area. While nothing wrong with the 6.5 and 8 3/8th inch barrels; I think they are great... I just don't have the need for anything that long, especially when/if I'm every going to CCW the revolver. 4" barrels are the longest barrels I'm interested in with 3" barrels being the sweet spot for my interest in Magnum calibers across the board. YMMV... But prices of recent seem to reflect a lot of the buying public's interest: they mirror my interest. Again, YMMV...
