The presentation case used from 1960 to 1968 has Styrofoam inserts flocked with a blue material. These interiors did not actually deteriorate, but if a revolver was stored in the case, the front and rear sights would "chew up" the Styrofoam resulting in deterioration. Cases not used to store a revolver can be found in mint condition today. The case shown in the photo below is 57 years old and demonstrates my point about the front and rear sight areas.
