Hi Guys

I found a very nice looking 29-3 in a local pawn shop yesterday. They had a price of 999 on it. The blue finish is in I would say better than 95% condition. It is missing some of the bluing at the tip of its 6 1/2 barrel. It is at the bottom of the barrel. No box or anything. It locks ups nice and tight and it appears not to have been shot very much either unlike my 629 which has seen plenty of range time. The grips are not scratched or anything. The trigger is very nice and it is serrated. How much is a fair price on these of this age? I know the dash 2's go for more and it if I remember correctly it does not have the endurance package of the dash 4. Any other issues that I have not thought about?

I agree with cubguy. He nailed the median (could go a tad lower and a tad higher, depending on circumstances). Great gun, but that's too much for muzzle wear and no box.

Are you sure that the bbl length is 6 1/2" and not 6". The 6 1/2" was discontinued around 1969 iirc. That's before the introduction of the 29-3. Might check that dash number again as well. ;)

Pictures would help.
Pure opinion but $999 as described seems beyond the upper end of reasonable. For a face to face transaction maybe $600-750 as described? For a retail transaction maybe $750-900? $850-900 out the door might be reasonable?
Closed prices for similar revolvers that have actually sold on Gun Broker as follows:
$527 - Aftermarket rubber grips and mild surface rust.

$600 - About 70% original condition

$600 - excellent original condition. maybe 95%

$625 - aftermarket rubber grips. excellent condition. maybe 95%

$660- Aftermarket rubber grips and mild to moderate freckling.

$692 - Aftermarket rubber grips, mild bluing wear at muzzle and couple other places, non-fluted cylinder.

$700 - excellent original condition about 95%

$715 - very good to excellent original condition. maybe low 90's %

$749 - excellent original condition about 95%

$775 - excellent original condition about 98%

$801 - excellent original condition. Maybe 95%

$830 - excellent original condition. Maybe 97%

$850 - excellent original condition about 97%

$855 - excellent condition with nice modern replacement S&W wood grips. maybe 98%

$884 - excellent original condition. Maybe 96%

I paid $800 after commissions and shipping for one in an auction about 6 months ago. About 98% condition with (cardboard) box, tools, etc.. General consensus at that time was that maybe I had spent a little too much. Of course, that's 6 months ago and things may have changed. I agree with cubguy's estimate.

The barrel is 6 inches. I did not catch that when I was typing it this morning. I did not get a chance to snap a photo when I was in the shop. I am going to try to make a deal in it. I am in no way going to pay what he wants for it. I was thinking in the 700 to 800 range to start with. I will let you know how it goes.

My 29-2 bought in 1978 and just measured moments ago shows
full barrel length to be 6.5 inches (N 38xxxx)

This 6" 29-3 cost me $200 NIB in 1987...that would be $418.67 in today's dollars.

I just picked up one with Hogues, no box, excellent condition mechanically, and cosmetically almost perfect. TT, TH, WO, RR. Very little hard use as everything is tight and no recoil shield imprinting. Mostly .44 specials used in it. I paid $700.00.

I thought I would post an update. The came down to 900. Seems very high for that gun. I did not buy it. But someone else did.
