29-3 w/ 8 3/8 barrel

Hey all, question for those with the long barrels, I recently purchased a model 29-3 and as stated it has the 8 3/8 barrel. What is a verry good gun rug for it ? it has the original box (cardboard) and thought about getting one of the XTRA large blue hard cases but I still want a heavy duty soft case, any reccomendations ? yes I will post pics once it gets to me.

Looking forward to seeing the new gun. Ebay is your friend for finding a rug. Get the dimensions you need and go hunting.

I've owned 29-3 with 8 3/8" BBL. 8 3/8" is my favorite barrel length to shoot 44 Magnums from.

I bought the following Ace Case/rug for the revolver... it is sturdy and has the perfect dimensions for this revolver:

Ok, took delivery today.

Looks real nice, maybe not shot very much. My 29-2 83/8'' probably only had three cylinders of .44 magnum shot through it and I bought it new. My friend sold his hunting land I never got to hunt with it after that. Pristine condition though! Thanks S&W forum.

Congrats nice piece I own a 29-3 105/8 barrel I have a gun rug that fits nicely let me check in my garage when I g wet t a chance I will post the brand and pic

If I have the original box I prefer to wipe it down and store it in the S&W wax paper in the factory box. Guns not in factory box goes in a gun rug. They all work. My 29 - 3 is a bit unusual. It is stainless with factory combat grips, scope rings, wood presentation case with tools and papers. Plus the blue box..

S&W makes one that barely fits the long N frame revolvers, but it's OK.

Do you live anywhere near a Cabella's or any other large sporting goods store? You usually can have a selection to select from.

Congrats on a real clean -3. I have one as well, but not nearly as clean. Very accurate & well made.

For storage in a soft case, I would look hard at "Bore Stores", or other similar products that are designed to breath, not hold moisture, and are treated with silicone to protect against rust. Might be overkill depending on your climate / location, but many soft cases don't breath, or are made of materials that attract / hold moisture. For protection against hard knocks away from the safe, the gun, in a Bore Store, in an appropriately sized quality hard case would be a nice package. "Pelican" brand, or similar come to mind.
