29-4 (1989) Three inch.price check and info.

I saw a three inch unfluted 29-4 with heavy barrel at the range today. Really liked it! What are my chances of finding one? What should I expect to pay for one 97%+ / no box?

Was this the blue one with the unfluted cylinder?? Some say they were Lew Hortons and others say they were a limited run from S&W. I'm not sure myself.

If you have a serial number, email Lew Horton. They'll tell you straightaway if it's one of theirs. I have a 3" 24 and a 3" 29 (fluted cylinder). The 24 was one of theirs, the 29 wasn't.

There's one on GB right now or $1295 with box. The seller states S&W made 2,532 of them in 1989. I bought one about 6 years ago. Mine is in great condition. It didn't come with a box and the prior owner had it Magnaported, but I paid less than $500 for it. A lot of collectors wouldn't touch it because of the porting, but I didn't mind. I thought it was a fair price for it back then, and I'm pretty sure I'll get my money back out of it if I were to ever sell it. It is a very cool gun. Good luck with your search.

I think I found one.... But I am looking at 900.00 total. (minty / no box). Sounds about right? I have nothing to compare to. Never seen one for sale.

I have two of them...not for sale. They are quite heavy when loaded. They came factory with some ugly rubber grips. I don't think they were Lew Horton models. They made quite a few of them, plus there are lots of different 3" model 29/629's. I wouldn't think they are worth more then $600/650.

I compared it to my friends 3 inch 629 Lew Horton. The 29-3 felt a lot mote solid..

I have one and I put Ahrends smooth boot grips on it. I wouldn't trade it for a gold monkey. The round butt and short barrel makes it handy to carry. There is nothing about it not to like. Larry

Got one.29-4 three inch. My LGS got one in. Did not have a box and is about 98%. The charged me 700.00 total. VERY happy.

I think you did good on the price. I am too old to shoot full loads in mine so I use 10 grs. of Unique for 1023 fps. Even with that light load it is still a right powerful pocket popper. Larry

Thank You. It seems to be VERY accurate with std. 246 grain lead factory load too. Also it seems MUCH easier to shoot and is more accurate tham the 629 three inchers I owned before.

Congratulations on your find. I bought one about seven years ago for $550.00. I don't shoot it very often. Full house .44magnums are a bear for me so I don't shoot them a lot. I do reload and usually when I shoot it I use .44 special loads of Unique and 240 gr. swc lead bullets so I don't start flinching after a dozen rounds. I shoot it with the S&W wooden round butt grips so it's harder on the hand than the Pachmyer rubbers. I haven't checked into it much, but, I don't think these are Lew Horton guns.

They are just "Gun of the Week" models from the factory and not Lew Horton specials. They are awfully nice.

Don't know about price, but the -4 has it all over the -1 with respect to durability.

I also found this three inch -4 MUCH more accurate than both -1 Lew Hortons that I owned and sold . I would like to find simmilar gun in stainless.
