I have the newest smith book and can't figure out the year of my 29-5 classic 8 3/8" 44 mag it is drilled and tapped by the factory. The serial number doesn't coincide with my book. The # is TJA78xx. Any ideas on year

1990 the Classic models were introduced and somewhere around 94/95 the 29's transitioned from -5 to -6 variants. -6 has new extractor design, new rear sight design and the Hogue rubber finger groove grips lost the silver medallions.

Ya wanna sell your rear sight? :D

If you have the box the Spec. Ord. Number is the date code yddd. Mine is 2098, so April 8 1992, except maybe it's the 7th since that was a leap year. My serial prefix is BNB. I'd call S&W if I were you. TJA seems more like a semi auto pistol prefix.
