29-5 value

What would a very clean 4 inch 29-5 be worth these days? I have a 29-3 that I shoot and don't really need the -5 and don't want to shoot it, I thought about trying to trade it FTF for an AR when I get home in June, just wondering where I stood.

Hi,

With the "endurance" enhancement on the 29-5 revolvers (with their longer cylinder notches for better lock up), the 29-5 is a .44 Magnum that is made to be more stout. So, if you get it . . . shoot the snot out of it. I believe these endurance enhancements began with some of the 29-4 revolvers, and these features continue to the current time on S&W Model 29 and 629 revolvers.

I've used my 6" 29-5 with 300 grain, hard-cast flat-nose hunting bullets for many, many years now . . . and expect to continue doing so for many years to come!

How much is a nice one like you've mentioned worth? Does it also have the box and original materials with it too? A photo would also help!

I know how much mine is worth to me . . . and thus mine's "priceless!"

Here's mine, sitting on the hide of a whitetail, piebald buck taken with this revolver. Below it is the gun with an eight-point buck taken last season. I love mine!!!

My 29's are earlier, but since you asked for opinions . . . my observations are based on the described 98% condition, 4" barrel, and pre-lock/post-endurance package era dash 5.

From what I've seen the current market would seem to be that anything less than $600 would be a bargain. Personally, I would be inclined to start losing interest (if I was in the market for such) when it approached the $750 to $800 range, but the fact that I already have my 4" 44 may be coloring my judgment. Some folks seem to willing to pay a bit more for certain guns and this one as described would certainly seem to fall into the 'desirable' category. If you don't have one and want one, the "gray area" for what you're willing to pay is only defined by your conscience and your wallet . . .
