I am wondering about this model. I don't ever see anything about em and never see any for sale (not looking to sell). I have a blued 4" that came with Hogue rubber grips and no box. I bought it at the lgs back in the 1990's. Can anyone tell me if these were stock grips? They had a box on the counter with grips and holsters for $10.00 each and I got a nice set of target grips for said price. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Pretty sure the Hogue Mono-grip became the factory standard stock with the Model 29-6. I don't think you hear a whole lot about the 29-5 because it incorporated all of S&W's upgrades to improve durability, so there are a whole lot less complaints about the cylinder unlocking during recoil. Less complaints usually means less comments.

Also, I think it was a short run compared to say 29-2's. I've had this one a dozen years, obviously the box is not original. Joe

I got a 83/8" on a trade couple weeks back. Hard to tell difference between 29-2 & 29-5 by sight. 29-5 not P&R. Got it up on classified because I got to many 83/8" m29s. As many 29s as I've had this is first -5. I use to be 83/8" nut, now switched to 6"-6.5".

Looking at the 'Big Book' SCSW edition 4 the dash 5 isn't listed. It appears to be a typo though because it does list the engineering changes & dates. It says production began in 1990 with the longer cylinder stop notch & new bolt block. The Magna Classic was also introduced in 90. 1991 brought the 44 Classic & 1992 brought the Magnum Classic Deluxe. There's no mention of what grips came on the gun. On the same page the Silhouette model is highlighted and does say that a dash 5 was offered in 1990 with the above mentioned engineering changes. So it appears there was only a three year run before the 29-6 came about in 93.
I was lucky enough to have a dash 5 Silhouette fall into my lap a few years ago. The grips were made by a gentleman from Fla. with Black Walnut.

OP, do your rubber grips have a S&W medallion inset in them? My 5" 29 Classic I bought new around 1991-92 came with that type of grip. No Hogue logo on the grips. although they're obviously made by them for S&W.

My Hill Country has the standard Hogue Monogrip and its marked as such. I have a 625-6 in .45 Colt that has the S&W medallion. I also have a 610 (pre-lock) that has the Medallion Hogue grips.

I have a couple of 29-5's and one 29-6. The 29-5's are both square-butts and came with target stocks. The 29-6 is a round-butt and came with Hogue stocks (I put Pachmayr Decelerators on it because the Pach's feel better to me to shoot with).

I like the fact that the 29-5's have the full endurance package and no MIM parts. I've really got no problem with MIM parts but I still like the fact that the 29-5's are MIM free. The 29-6 in the pic below has a MIM trigger and cylinder release.....& it gets shot more than the 29-5's....so go figure ;). :) Don

I have posted this many times, but maybe somebody new would like to see it. This is a 29-5, 1992 classic DX. one of about 200 made in 5". This is a round butt and is wearing Culina American Holly grips. It came with 2 sets of grips. Morado combats and a one piece hogue mono grip.
