I started back in Jan with a 29-2.
I figured get a 19 4” while I’m at it as I always liked that model..
Get a 22 as it’s cheap to shoot..
Then I learned about the 27… a 357 mag in N framez! The original.
Then this and then that…
I’m now at 29 revolvers. All S&W.
Since Jan.
9 of those are 44 Mag 6 29-2 and 3 629 ND.
How to exercise self control?
How to decide which ones you really “need” or don’t need.
No snubbys in my collection. It’s 4” - 8 3/8”. That’s a decision made which limits my “needs”.
All pinned and recessed.
No 38’s only. No 10’s or 15’s.

Right now I’m “needing” a 27-2 5” nickel.. as I have one in blue.
“Needing” a 25-5 in 6” blue as I have 4” and 8”…
I also have a 6” 25-5 in nickel which means….
No 57’s yet.
The point being, I could strive for 6 57 ND… and the rest of the 25-5.

Well, y’all know where I’m coming from.

I have heard about “the sickness”..
I would rather not have it.. but I’m interested to hear anyone else’s “sickness” stories..

I’ll certainly be slowing down next year, but there are a bunch on the list as you are obviously aware.

Everyone has their own parameters, I have gathered.

There is no cure for the sickness, only periods of remission. It spreads to other areas and soon you'll need one of all of the small frame 22s because they are cute. Then you will start on the top breaks, or pre model N frames or another of the almost limitless "strains" of the disease. For most of us the cure comes in the permanent variety.

You're bumping up dangerously close to your 35 limit. Just sayin'. :)

Alan, my “list” already takes me to 44..and I have allowed another 6 that I do not even know about yet to get me to my 50 max… which I now understand could become 60 by the time I have collected 35. I have failed us both

If all you're collecting is "no dash" the M657 wasn't made until P&R was a thing of the past, unless you're talking about a 6" 57, which is P&R. I've been following most of your posts, I didn't realize you're up to 29 revolvers. You've dropped some serious coin this year. And once you find a M57, you're obligated as a magnum collector to find a M58.

As for no snubby's due to a "decision which limits my needs", you've done blown needs to hell and gone. Have you found a 3-1/2" M27 yet? That's as close to a snub nose in that model as you'll find and then there are the K frame magnums, M13, M65, M19, M66 that all have P&R 2-1/2 inch versions available.

I didn’t mean the 657, I meant 6 57’s. All barrel lengths and finishes

I have 4 model 19-3’s and 2 66-1’s. So nickel, blue and stainless in 4” and 6”

Sickness....??????
We've all been there, hang in there at least you haven't got to the stage that you need to have counseling.

There is actually a cure for your disease...It's often prescribed by a Shop Owner and is called "Just One More" But, be warned, it's a very dangerous drug and often leads to a condition known as "It's only one more"
Be very careful.

Maybe a Model 28 in your future? Less flashy than the 27 but can be just as impressive at the range. In either 4" or 6" and P&R through the -2.

Todd
My 3 28-2’s
2 came from the Attic. One from another dealer. All GB winning bids

Buy something you didn't know you want. Mine was a 2" M&P 38 - pre mdl. 10. Looks like a cannon from the front. Intimidating that the barrel and visible chambers are all pointed at the target, loaded up.

The addiction for me started in 1974 at age 21. Literally hundreds, no exaggeration, of firearms trading, selling, and buying of all brands since then. The only temporary "easing" of the symptoms was the next one I had to have. No cure that I have found! At this point in my life (old age, health issues, and limited retirement income), I have only six handguns and one shotgun. But no complaints or regrets from me.

You mention "No 38’s only. No 10’s or 15’s." Well, as your/our sickness is just beginning to develop, consider a 38/44 pre-war and/or post-war heavy and outdoorsman. These N frame 38 specials might serve as a temporary cure for the sickness--at least until the end of this year :-)

LOL! You must be a single guy because long before I purchased 29 handguns in one year my wife would have knocked me senseless! You have definitely caught the S&W virus, aka SMOVID-29. The only cure is...aging. I recently turned 70 and am realizing that I don't really need to add any more vintage revolvers to my collection, and that soon I may have to start thinning the herd. I'm at the point where if I do buy another gun, I will trade or sell one that I have. I've enjoyed the hunt, and I've enjoyed admiring and shooting my guns, but I've definitely slowed down. You've already done a fine job of finding and acquiring a nice collection of S&W revolvers, so continue to enjoy your search and keep us posted as your collection grows.
