Hello,
well I got some limited time at the range this weekend to try out the 296 I found last week. I tried it with some various Ammo, I was really curious to see how it was to shoot such a light weight .44 special, I had seen comments varying from unshootable to comfy.....
Add I am happy to say for me its a keeper!! I shot all ammo at 15 yds and while bullet weight did change Elevation POI, almost everything shot just a bit left for me, and I must do some more shooting to determine if that's me or the gun.
Ammo tried was Hornady 165 Gr FTX, Hornady 180 Gr XTP, Federal 200 Lead HP, and some Georgia arms 240 Gr Reloads.
While the gun is a bit snappy with the two Hornday loads its easier to shoot than my 340 M&P with +P 38 special and the recoil is pretty similar, and the Georgia arms reloads were no worse than Reg .38 special recoil wise, and still easier to shoot being a larger gun fitting my hands much better......Nothing I shot comes even close to the recoil of 357 Mag out of my 340 M&P.
Please forgive me for not shooting better or taking more pictures, I was a bit pressed for time only having an hour at the range!
First 2 cylinders were the two Hornady loads, with the 165 Gr hitting a bit low.
I kept using the same target adding shoot&see target...
Some 200 grain federal at about same POI as the Hornady 180, the 240 hitting slightly higher
And finishing off all my ammo, shooting quickly to get a good feel for the gun
For comparison, my M&P 340
158 Grain american eagle a little low but centered nicely, 84 gr inceptor lower and right of POA
and my .38 combat masterpice, the inceptor also shot a little low and right, but this gun loves the 158 grain stuff, right on the bullseye!
Now my Question. Who knows what XS sight is the right one for my 296, I like the big dot on my 340, and think I want to try the standard dot on my 296. They only list one for L frames and I am sure it is too tall as it is for adjustable sights. My Front sight on my 296 is about .20-.21 measured with some cheap calipers, the one on the 340 measures just under .2
