Last week was pretty spectacular - I acquired this 27-2.

Lockup is excellent, trigger is smooth, and I was happy with the first shots. (10yds)

I didn’t question the stocks too much, since I got this for a really good price, and I plan to get different stocks anyway. But I’m not sure what these are. Ideas?IMG_7281.jpegIMG_7282.jpeg642D6C64-A280-4FD1-8AA9-D7A49F7462C3.jpeg

They could be Sile, but that's just a guess. Pictures of the inside of the stocks might help.
Pics added in previous post.
Sile's, one of the cheapest grips one can get. Please upgrade to a set of original targets. If you can't find any, PM me and I'll hook you up! It's sacrilege to have such a lowly set of grips on such a beautiful gun!!
Agreed, and I plan on it. I want target stocks, and I intend to find some elk stag for it at some point.

A cursory search of the forum, GB, and ebay hasn’t yielded any targets that were reasonably priced for the condition represented… Yet. PM on the way.

She’s fantastic!
Nice score! 3.5" barrel guns are very desirable right now. I would agree that the current grips are sile.

What's the serial no? (or first few digits of, i.e. n324xxx). If you're trying to put original grips on it, the forum can help advise what would be era correct to the age of the gun.

Thanks!

Thanks!
Serial number puts that thing at ~1975. That would be right on the verge of whether target grips would have been standard or not. Beings as your gun does not have a target width trigger and is a 3.5 barrel gun, I think it is more likely that it shipped with magnas than it is that it shipped with target grips. The previous owner making the decision to swap the grips for larger target sized siles would also support the theory of it shipping with magnas. All that being said, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it originally came with target grips as I believe late 1975 is when target sized grips became standard configuration on the model 27. If you intend to shoot this thing on a regular basis and prefer target sized grips, I wouldn't think twice about doing so and I wouldn't at all feel that it is an incorrect representation of the gun regardless of what it shipped with.

If you were to elect to put era correct target grips on it, goncalo alves silver washer football targets such as the ones on CH4's gun would be correct. I would also consider era correct smooth targets for this gun, due to a personal preference for smooth grips.

A much earlier (27 no dash) w/ standard trigger came with these magnas.
Mine too (original numbered) although I cant say the same about the finish...It was originally blued, but I like it anyway...:D...Ben

I would have guessed Sile also, but they were usually marked "Made in Italy". The fact that these aren't doesn't necessarily preclude Sile as the manufacturer.

Beautiful piece.

Adios,

They look like Sile to me. I've seen some S&W target stocks that were shorter than mormal and more rounded on early 27s but don't doubt the standard target stocks were also available as were Magnas.

That is a nice gun!

My 1950 "Pre-27" is well worn but it is tight as a tick and shoots well.

It seems to me that you will shoot the pistol a lot. If the current grips are comfortable to you get a set of targets. If not, and too big get the magnas. If needed you can add a Tyler adapter to make up the difference.
I really like the look and feel of targets, and most of my vintage Smiths have them. But I do have magnas/Tgrips on a 27 Classic and a 1947 Heavy Duty, and they work just fine (they clear speed loaders with no problem also).

Such as these?

My preference on the 3 1/2" M27 would be Craig Spegel's Short Targets. They fit just right and look good too.

Note: The Registered Magnum in the pic is wearing it's numbered Magnas..... :>)

Hoping the link works, haven't figured out to put photos on this new platform.
